Hello everyone, hope you're all well. I was wondering if my set up will have any smell outside, i will be intaking and extracting the air directly outside via an extraction fan with a carbon filter and an Ona filter in both the intake and outtake ducting, but i was wondering if there would still be a smell outside? Any advice would be great! Thanks.
Not necessarily....but you want to maintain a little negative air pressure in the room, and let the exhaust filter do it's job...If you can still smell anything outside at all, then a 2nd carbon filter & fan INSIDE the room will really scrub the air before it gets outside.
Not really. As per previous post, you want a little negative air pressure. If you find your fan is struggling to keep negative pressure, swap it out for the next size up and you can run that one slower. Personally, I'd figure out the size fan you need, go the next one up and with a decent carbon filter you can ditch the ona altogether.
So, my intake ducting is coming direct from outside (2foot from the grow room), would smell not seep out?. I will be adding the Ona filter in each duct (Just a secondary filter just in case, i am getting a high grade carbon filter). Both intake and extract has a bug/rain guard. Im probably overthinking it all, but i like to be as safe and efficient as possible
It won't if the exhaust fan keeps a slight suction on it all the time...the smell will get pulled thru the filter.
I thought this was the case, i'm just being too cautious , i am making the grow tent myself (due to the size and spec), so i shall make sure there are no air leaks!. Thanks
Yeah, I use an outdoor shed, and I vented mine out thru the floor to the ground under the shed,so nobody can see it, lol
No, I just vent out to the ground...the shed sits on blocks ,with a few inches of air space under the wood floor, and the filtered air blows down into that space.
Yep...Now if I could only hide that window unit AC....LOL....If anybody asks, "Oh that's just climate controlled storage for the ammo..."
I think you should save yourself a carbon filter and ONA on the intake. I don't use one, I only use a carbon filter on the exhaust fan and no ONA filters anywhere, and you can't smell a thing outside. And I have some super stinky stuff. Just don't cheap out on the carbon filter, and as these guys all said, keep neg pressure when you can. If backdraft is a worry on your intake, you can always put a dryer vent/flapper style port that only opens one direction.....in. But if you were to do that, I have found it beneficial to step up the exhaust fan power a little as the flapper adds a little resistance. I have a real powerful 6" fan that I only ever turn up on the hottest of days. You would only really need to consider a flapper if you have a cyclical or therm controlled room where the exhaust fan might shut off here or there. A steady draw setup would guarantee no backdraft out the intake or leaks out the tent
