Help; 100° growroom

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by seedling4life, Oct 7, 2007.

  1. Its my first grow, I am using CFLs, I have my grow room in a closet and the temperature is always between 95 and 100, pretty much the same temperature we have outside, so I put 3 fans and left the closet doors open, the windows are open and the door to that room is open, and still the temp only goes down to aobut 95, humidity is around 70%.
Temperature in the room goes dow to about 85 between 1am-10am.
Is there anything else I can do besides getting an A/C unit?
The plants look ok, and don't seem to be affected by the high temperatures, but they are only 3 weeks old.
Can they deal with this heat throught the vegetative state?
How will this affect the plants?

  2. You're outdoor temps are 95-100 Degrees at 70% humidity? You shuld be growing outdoors, son!

I can't think of anything else rather than getting an AC unit. It doesn't matter how much air you move in the ambient temps in the room are the same as in the growbox. You also might benefit from a dehumidifier in the room.

  3. I wish I could, we have perfect growing temps all year long, but there are too many people around; and the army ants eat up every plant around here.
Are you sure I should bring my humidity down, I assume this helps them with the heat; it was at 50%, which read as moderate on my meter so I brought it to 70% to give them a tropical climate.

  4. The only ways to reduce temps are either remove/reduce heat sources and/or combat the heat with lower temps.

  5. You could also go for more heat resistant strains (indica types) of plants too, thats what I did in preperation for our hot aussie summer just in case.

I also keep my day time cycle during the coldest (and electrically cheapest) parts of the day as well, this helps alot. If I ran my light during the middle of the day, I would always be fighting an uphill battle.

    Hope this helps!!!!

  6. Thanks toastybiz and big_milsy.
I took the big 85w CFL out, i'll put back in when they are bigger.
I also changed from 24X7 to 18-6, the lights are off during the hottest part of the day.
    Temps are around 80-90 now.
The ones that are seeds from herbs I bought down here seem to be doing fine with the heat, the skunk I got from sensi seeds is growing a lot slower.
Some of the tips on the lower leaves are turning brown, is this because of the heat? should I be concerned?
