I broke my quad perc (several times) right at the female joint. The joint itself is broken, it did not break off clean. I have used marine epoxy to fix it several times, and it is now in 4 or 5 pieces that i have glued back together. It doesnt look very good though and I was wondering how to replace the entire joint? I'd like to look into glass blowing and doing this myself. Ive read that the big torches that create the pipes are very expensive, but what if I wanted one just capable of repairing glass like a welders torch? The replacement part is also a problem because if you google bong replacement joints or similar queries, you can only find replacement downstems or bowls. What do I need to repair this? Where can I buy the replacement joint? (id prefer not to pay $100 for someone else to repair it when I will probably break it again. i would rather spend a couple to a few hundred to be able to repair it myself) here a pic of the joint that i have repaired with marine epoxy: http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f2.../bongjoint.jpg boo to photobucket deleting it. here it is on flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/58867737@N05/
Try uploading the picture with flickr or something. Photobucket deletes images they don't like...including yours you just uploaded.
you can buy the joint search for 19/26 mm female groundglass joint on google i usually buy them in bulk but they are only like 2 dollars, the problem u will run into is that when yu try to heat up where it broken on the bong the cracks will spread and probably ruin the whole thing, another problem is that welding the joint on is a fairly challenging skill and chances are it wont look good/will have a very weak connection, if u did this u would need access to a big kiln in order to anneal the glass and if the joint isnt welded on right it will crack, using a welding torch will melt glass but the flame is very cocused on a very small spot and it would be extremely hard to keep the whole joint hot while fusing it. the cost of glassblowing equipment isnt just the torch itself, you also need an oxygen tank ($300 for me) propane tank, regulators $100 dollars each, hoses, eye protection $100 as for fixing ur bong i would buy a new glass joint ands epoxy it on to the bong, it would work okay, and be cheap if u want to blow glass get a hot head torch and work with soft glass to get started
am i allowed to post him a link to where to get the joints? GC sells nothing of the like and it wouldent compete with them since they dont really deal with lampworking supplies...
