So, i have a 5'x5'x4' area in my house that i would like to house 6 plants in. I was talking to a friend who has had many succesful grows. He told me to buy a 4' flouro hood from walmart and GE plant and aquarium bulbs. I bought the stuff, it was like 30 bucks. Now what i want to know is if im wasting my time with that lighting set up. Im not trying to pull in pounds. just enough too last me a while. Should i consider buying a different light set up? or will i be fine with what i have? Also, the space i use has a slanted roof so i dont have too much vertical space. Its 4 feet at the highest point. Thank you!
have you consider LST? do some search for it, I have seen a couple of threads of fluros with this technique being successful.
What is the wattage per bulb, spectrum, and do you know how what the lumen out out is? 6 plants will need a lot of light. Info should be on the box.
i have and i have totally considered it. But just wondering even with lst will 2 of those bulbs provide enough light for 6 plants. Start to finish? and each bulb is 40watt. color temp is 3,100K lumen output is 1900
If it works I would imagine they would be stretched. You really want to hit close to 100w a plant. And use the 6400k spectrum during veg, it will grow under 2700k but will be stretched out. The 2700k is used for the flowering. I would suggest returning what you purchased if you can. And would suggest spending a little more for a T5 fixture 4ft 4 bulb atleast but 8 bulb would be better. Major hardware stores carry them. And can be found online for reasonable prices.
money really isnt a big deal. I live in the most friendly pot state in the us. so if i need to i will go walk to one of the 3 pot specific grow stores less than a mile from my house and get a nice light and ballast. Shit is way cheap here haha
I dont think it is enough. Maybe for 3-4 plants max. I'm using actual 150W of CFL's on my 3 plants. (around 9-10k lumens).
well i just pulled the trigger on an xtrasun 400w ballast with a 400w mh bulb and a 400w hps bulb. So that should be enough i think. Another question, it is winter so my room is at like 60-63 degrees right now. I know that its too cold. Will the 400w bulbs help that or will they raise the temps too much?
Yep, 400w will definitely bump those temps up. Nice purchase you will love it as long as you have a way for air intake/exhaust.
will it bump it to a good level though? cause its way to cold right now. we are getting our first snow and i just checked the thermometer and even with the light on im sitting at 54 degrees
How big is the space? Are you going to run intake in to the room and exhaust air out? Even if you don't care about the smell, your plants will that you for constant fresh air. If the temps don't come up might consider a small room heater. Atleast through Winter. If your temps do come up during lights on you should be able to get away with it as long as you seeing temps around 75. But sounds like you will need a heater during lights off atleast.
