Heat Problem.

  1. I have been testing the current temperature of the room that I plan to grow my garden in. With the indoor grow lights on, the temperature fluctuates from 79 degrees to 85 degrees depending on the time of day.

Now, one week last spring warmth is hitting in and the temperatures aren't going to get any better.

I currently have 3 ice packs in front of my fan, which is getting the temperature down to 82 degrees.

The weird thing is, I'm only using 40 watts worth of lighting and both are CFL lights.

Before the lights and grow area setup the temperature was averaged at 73 degrees to 80 degrees throughout the day. Just looking to get it back to those kinds of temperatures.

    Any help?

Addition: Also, I can't cut into the AC system in my house, so I am stuck with only primitive ways of trying to decrease temperature.

If the temperature stays around 80-85 degrees, How negatively will these temperatures affect my plants growth?

  2. The hotter the temp the more water they need and they will stretch and grow slower. Try running your system at night for one thing. You may have to break down and get a window A/C.

  3. I had heat problems, tried everything, more fans etc, in the end I bought a portable aircon of a mate and have not looked back.. Its hard fighting Nature

  4. I hate heat problems. They've given me quite a bit of trouble during this grow. I bought one of these air coolers and it has worked great. It usually lowers the temperature about 5 degrees, sometimes even down 10 degrees or so. You have to fill it up with water, but it lasts at least 10 hours. This same company also makes portable air conditioners (that don't even need to go into a window, they just wheel around).

    Hope that helped, good luck!

  5. Thanks for everyone's help.

The Sunpentown Air Cooler sounds like it will work great, it's small too!

Looks like I will need to gather my change for this one.

One step closer to the perfect grow room. :)
