Healthy, but not growing, help!!

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by deosr, Mar 31, 2006.

  1. Ok. I planted my seed about 2 weeks ago. maybe even a little more. It was growing quick.. It grew it first 2 tiny leaves. And it started to bend towards the ground. So I packed it up with more soil to support it.. The stem has strengthened back to almost normal.. But I havnt seen the slightest bit of growth in leaves on the top. Its still exactly the same as a week ago. The 2 little leaves and the 2 round ones from the start.. Does anyone know why this might be?

im using those good T5 flourescent lights.

  2. First of all, do you have a fan on it? I take it this is indoors? What type of lights you using? Give us more info please and welcome to GC.

  3. I had stated at the bottom that im using T5 Florescent lights.

  4. Ok.
How about the fan and other details?

  5. I open a window a few times a day and circulate air throught the room. But I dont have a fan blowing on it. I mist it 4 times a day. The light is about 6-8 inches from the plant.

  6. All right.
In addition to your window, definitely get a fan blowing on it. Also, stop spraying it. I don't think spraying it is necessary and it is possible that spraying can cause burning (especially when using an HID which you are not). Additionally, if the plant is two weeks old, that gives you about 1-2 more weeks to figure out what you want to use to fertilize. And finally, get that light to about 2-3 inches from the tops; 8 is too far. These things should pick up some growth. Measure it daily with a ruler to make sure it is growing, sometimes when you see it many times a day it is hard to tell.

  7. Well I didnt want to put it to close, Because this light does give off some heat.. Like its not really hot. But its warm in the 1-4 inch are from the light. So I thought the warmth from the would be to warm for the plant.

Also, I just set up a fan today.

Fertilize? I think after i let the root grow out of the seed on a napkin and then planted it I put it in fertilized soil. I put it in potting soil. I use water with miracle grow in it also. But not to much miracle grow just a bit.

  8. Ok. Next time don't use any soil with fertilizer and don't add any fertilizer to seedlings. They don't need food until about 3.5 weeks old or so. If you have the fan blowing you should be able to get the light within 3 inches. Put your hand over the tops of the plant and if you can keep it there for a long time without your hand burning, you plants should be fine too.
