So as my favorite series ever filmed has to be The Wire from HBO Im sure many have seen it and have mixed opinions. It is placed 1-3 of top shows made in the 2000's FAQ If you have seen the show and are an avid watcher like myself you need to watch the corner it is a mini series that features Freamon as a heroin addict It fills in holes and storys and brings about the backround of every character in The Wire you can buy it At your local bestbuy- i advise you do so If you love the show as much as me youll note that the Barksdale Empire was much iller then the Marlo regime so input and thoughts here would be great HBO and David Simon (director mastermind behind The Wire) have agreed to a contract that lands David right back with a very similar cast from The Wire It is based in New Orleans as a Post Katrina theme to it.. Spoiler Alert My favorite Characters are Wee-Bay , Bodie , Bunk , and Mc Nutty
i have both cause people told me to watch and insisted it was awesome. I've watched the first episode 3 times now. its good. really good. but i need to sit down and watch the entire first season. i know im missing out.
Cheers, one of my favorites and imo also one of the best tv shows ever made. Can't think of another show that had this consistently solid of a cast. It's a testament to the writers' ability that they could juggle so many different character arcs/story lines throughout all 5 seasons and then still manage to bring closure to all of them in a satisfying way. I have quite a few favorite characters - Bodie, Stringer Bell, Weebay, McNulty, Bunk, Freamon, Prop. Joe, Omar, Brother Mouzone, Slim Charles, Marlo, Chris, Snoop, Levy.
Glad to see there's people that enjoy The Wire. I tell people to watch it and they never heard of it or say it sucks I think it might be my favorite show of all time or in the top 3. Never seen the Corner yet though , its it really good? Oh, how I miss the Wire.
Haven't seen it either, but from what I hear it's very good, and even more depressing than The Wire since the characters are primarily heroin addicts. Same, but I'm happy it ended when it did. David Simon said he conveyed all that he wanted with the 5 seasons, and they did cover pretty much everything. Season 1 conveyed the futility of the drug war, 2 showed what's happened to many blue collar workers in the face of 'progress,' 3 offered a rational(albeit ugly/tragic) solution to the drug war, 4 covered education and the consequences of 'no child left behind,' and 5 covered the ongoing problem facing written journalism. And all 5 seasons effectively showed how politics trumps logic in much of bureaucracy. Couldn't really ask for more out of a show. I recommend Generation Kill too, from the same people that gave us The Wire, David Simon and Ed Burns. It follows a journalist as he's embedded with a marine recon unit throughout the first 40 days of the invasion of Iraq. As with everything that Simon and Burns are apart of, the prevailing theme is realism. I gotta check out Treme on HBO too(David Simon), it's takes place in New Orleans following hurricane Katrina. Unfortunately it premiered at the same time Breaking Bad is on
middle of season 2 of the wire. its awesome. i'm also keeping up with treme, which is an amazing show.
Wow its funny because I was about to make a thread on the wire and the corner. I have all five seasons and have all six episodes from the corner. Coming from a suburban area, I never really had much exposure to drugs(besides weed) and never understood why people abused or sold drugs. And honestly being in a "bubble" with majorly white people and asians, the people I hung out with often would look down on blacks and hispanics. But after attending college in Camden, and taking Urban Studies(where I heard of the wire) my view on the problems of our cities more or less made itself apparant. Anyone who hasnt seen either and is wondering I would suggest watching the corner first. The only complaint I had of the series was that after seeing and loving the wire, it was hard to adjust to some of the actors from the wire in the corner. The Wire is probably by far the best show and when I was taking Intro to Urban Studies, the class focused and correlated on what the Wire focused on(School, port, etc). A must see for anyone who wants to see 5 seasons of quality tv.
ahh yea the wire is my fav show of all time. its great, i don't see how people could not like it. i've never heard of the corner, thats pretty sweet. i'm going to go look that shit up right now.
For real Freamon is the dope fiend in the corner? thats coo. yea slim charles, sgt carver, and snoop are my three fav characters..i could watch 1-5 in one sitting man that show is sick. and yea, they gave us alot more info on the inner workings of the barksdale Ops versus marlos.. i think we should have gotten more info on all the other playaz in the co op (prop joe), cuz theres alot of guys there that we never see much of ( besides hungry man gettin murked by cheese) oh caynt forget cheese!!! did yall know that the dude who plays the "pastor" guy that helps cutty get the boxing shit together is [little melvin], one of the major drug kingpins in Baltimore in the 70's and 80's..and snoops actor was locked up for murdering some girl..and then with method man playin cheese they got quite a few real people in there! i thought that was cool.
i just watched the first episode of The Corner. it was really good, but depressing. yea Freamon being into dope is pretty crazy. Snoop, Chris and Omar are my fav characters. yea the girl that plays Snoop is a lot like her character (except for all the murder). that girl is fuckin bad ass. i didn't know that about the pastor though, thats sweet.
Yea the mayor's running aid(forgot his name but was black and was also in SWAT) is also a dope fiend as well. Jay from the homicide unit is also in the Corner but as a construction worker who buys the copper, and Orlando is Francis's family member. Lt Daniels is also in the corner but I am not going to give him away. Its very interesting seeing the wire cast as different roles. Youll enjoy it.
There's also another show called Homicide which I heard is similar to the Wire. I think it came out in the early 90's. Anyone ever seen it?

na i never heard of it i just got done watching the second Ep of The Corner. i love it, i'm really sad theres only 6 eps. I should of just bought the book so it would take longer.
Yea but once you I saw the end of the 6th episode I was kinda glad they ended it there. They didnt drag out the series too long. I love the scene where Weebay puts Delonda in her place....she was pissing me off every single time I saw her. Weebay has definitely grown on me. Watch the prequels of the wire.
