Hay smell and taste / buds not dense at all. PLEASE HELP

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by GIANNA8522, Jul 30, 2020.

  1. I have an indoor grow. 4 1500 watt LEDs , feeding with fox farm nutes and I've grown nothing but autos. They look picture perfect before theyre cut but for some reason no matter what I do it also looks , smells , and tastes like homegrown crap. I flush it good until yellowing occurs and put it in the dark before cutting for 48 hours. They're hung between 10 to 14 days with an rh of about 50 with the temperature about 65. I have tried dry trimming as well as wet trimming to no avail. I put them in the jars and burp them about twice a day for the first 2 weeks and keep the rh around 50 to 55 with the temp around 65. A friend of mine told me using autos will cause this ?? I can't figure this out for the life of me and no matter how big and beautiful I get the plants it's not even close to the quality I'm looking for. Please help

  2. Drying and curing are the keys to smell/taste, its a learning curve my friend im coming up on harvest #8 and still struggle with getting buds into jars while theres still enough moisture left in them to begin the cure process, last harvest was my best yet, just have to learn from our mistakes and improve next time around all we can do my friend

From the sounds of it 2 weeks it too long to let hang dry probably, completely dried out unless it was a whole 4-5ft plant even then 2 weeks is really pushing it

  3. A long hang dry is not a bad thing. Slow is good.

Burp frequently especially at first. Air exchange is good. I burp many times a day for the first 3-4 weeks. You shouldn't just be burping when the humidity gets too high in the jars, you really want good air exchange.

  4. agree, I only dry for 7 days then jar. Pretty happy with quality and only 2 grows finished yet

  5. Sounds like they are jist overdrying. Underdried is better than over dried going into jars. 2 weeks would be great if it actually took that long to get to the correct moisture content. Mine are usually ready to go in jars in about 6 days with my setup. I made the mistake of letting them dry too long once (never do that again!) and taste/smell was absolutely affected. Jar them as soon as the smaller stems snap. If it only takes 5 days with your environment, then that's what it takes. You can always remove more moisture, but you can't really put it back once they are overdried.

  6. How was the smell when they were flowering ? Do you have any suspicions that you are running your lights or your environment too hot?

  7. Thinking the same thing. If my math is any good, 4x1500W would easily cover a 10 x 10 foot grow space. Probably more. How much space are you lighting?

  8. no way those are true 1500W if they are purple LEDs

  9. imo that RH of 50 is your issue , I follow the 777 route, 70 degrees 70 RH for 7 days .... which some times depending on bud size can run up to 10 days. Curing stops once the RH drops below 55 , so if you jar at 50 and it stays at 50 in the jar the cure has stopped completely and will not resume

  10. You're letting them get way too dry.......I jar at 65% RH. I only dry for 4-5 days......if I let them go for 2 weeks like you I would have nothing but powder.
As mentioned above........curing stops if the RH drops below 55.
    Get a hygrometer.

  11. Your friend is correct in that autos do that. Their not as dense or potent as photos in general. I harvested my first auto a while back and was surprised at how light weight the buds felt. I also noticed that the trichomes on my auto weren't as big as my photo ones and the smell is far tamer. This IMG_20200622_180126948.jpg turned into this 15961443714654093014150939605885.jpg mid grade regular nothing special whatsoever but it works.

  12. Try a different strain... I personally don’t prefer autos but might just not be your favorite strain.

  13. *ONLY* Dry for 7 days.. jesus that's a long time. If I did that, they'd be crumbly dry. They were dry at day 3 *snapping stems*.... you must have alot of humidity in you're drying room..
I hang dried for 3 days, jarred now for 2 weeks. Opening twice a day for 15 mins..
With 58% boveda packs *2 in each jar*, I didnt have 62 on hand..
    Bbbbeautiful smoke,
Tastes like a blueberry paper without the paper..

  15. Boveda pacs are great for maintaining good humidy in the jars for a good cure and longevity. They won't necessarily "fix" overdried bud, but they are definitely a must-have IMO.

  16. Hmm. Good to know. Awesome. Not only did I just place an amazon order last night, but now I get to place another one today for a grow up that’s turning hermie and getting bud rot. Grow dope they said. It’s fun they said.

  18. Yea I try to push it towards 70, but usually ends up in the mid 60s. I'll try jaring some after 6 and try with little more RH in jars. But just a few jars.

  19. 3 days? So many people say the longer the drying time without mold, the better. 3 days is quick. I dry mine until the stems start to snap, maybe a bit before. Takes longer than a week. Temp drops to 64 as high as 70 degrees. Rh about 50%
