Has anyone had problems with capsules?

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by MasterChief556, May 14, 2020.

  1. Awhile ago I bought gel capsules from the dispensary and took one. Waited two hours and nothing happened... Took some more and waited a couple hours, still nothing... Took more and at 12:00 it hit me like a truck and I was uncomfortably high. I slept it off and the next morning I felt gross. I ended up throwing up in a parking lot. Keep in mind I did eat during the day so I wasn't on an empty stomach. Do edibles ever take an absurd amount of time to kick in for you? A lot of times edibles either don't work for me or they take several hours to kick in and I really don't know why this is the case for me.

  2. Metabolism plays a major roll I usually eat something fatty right before I dose. Also dispensary caps are expensive u should check out bnwhash caps if u bought a gram of oil u could make 20-40 caps for around 20-30$ In the about 1.5 hrs at home instead of buying them pre made for a ridiculous price.

  3. Since you've kicked your weed addiction why worry about it?

  4. Capsules, or anything oil based, in my experience take a lot longer to kick in. I generally can start to feel it in about an hour, but don't fully engage until about 2 hours in. Metabolism plays a big part. I like to target 1 hour after a reasonably sized meal for best effects. Though I have experienced what you sound to be describing if I take one too far out from a meal. Your metabolism goes into "idle" mode and it seems like when you take an edible, it just sits there and produces very minor effects.

Throw a quick meal or even a heavy snack on top of that and things kick into gear quite fast and there's a rebound function where it's like a rubber band stretched thin, snaps back and it can hit you like a ton of bricks.

I suspect that's probably different for everyone, but that's why I generally shoot for that ~1 hour after a meal, it seems like a sweet spot for reasonably rapid onset without that "stalling" effect.

That's not to say that I don't like or enjoy capsules. They're really handy, keep forever, are incredibly discreet, and as long as you know how they work for your personal metabolism and tolerance, they can be really quite nice.

In my personal opinion, tinctures are better for me. Though obviously not as simple as a capsule, tinctures come on faster, peak in a more obvious way, and don't leave as much residual cloudiness behind afterwards. There's a place for both though.

Another observation you mentioned feeling like crap the next day...oil has (for me) the longest falloff. Even with relatively mild doses, say in the 10 - 20mg range, it sticks with me for upwards of 24 hours. If you had what can only be described as an uncomfortable level, it's not out of hand to expect a long and unpleasant come-down that could last well over 24 hours.

I've had some rather unpleasant mornings where I've woken up to find my head is not at all on straight. I've found that anything to boost your metabolism helps clear the webs. A half hour+ of running does the job nicely for me...burning out most of what's left.

Hope this helps, best of luck! Don't write off edibles very quickly, they're just more finicky to dial in, particularly since everyone's metabolic/digestive system is tuned differently there's not hard and fast rules, just general guidelines that aren't always applicable to everyone. There's also a ton of variance among store-bought commercial edibles, not to mention they're expensive. Making your own is a better, more consistent way, if you're up for the work...which isn't that bad once you get down to it. We're here to help!

    Best,
    Pol

  5. First off all dispensary edibles are crap and don't work on me. Long since given up on them.
Make your own. This way you know what went in and you know they are the same exact strength every time.

Finding your own personal sweet spot takes more then a few tries and under and over shoots.

The oil used can make a large difference in how fast the edible kicks in.
    Coconut oil = 30 minutes
All other cooking oil including butter = 2.5 hours.
Using Lecithin will kick the mix in the ass and for most people it will double the stone for the same MG used.

  6. I have this problem -- I've been putting thc tincture in gelatin capsules, and taking it sublingually, etc. but I'll feel NO effect lately until the middle of the night!
I take it in the morning or at noon, feel nothing, and at 3am I wake up so high I feel sick. This didn't use to happen; up until a few weeks ago it worked fine and kicked in within an hour.
Gummies still work though  and I try taking the oil on a full stomach, empty stomach, or right before I eat, and it doesn't matter.
I'm back on the volcano vape for now. Trying to quit smoking but I love my bong :c

  7. Using BadKats Hash oil Capsule recipe made all the difference in how edibles worked on me.
The Magic is in the Lecithin.
This stuff just works. Every time, All the time, Empty or full belly it works. Take it every day and it stacks rather then building tolerance. I have to skip a day a week or risk getting way to fucking high by weeks end. That means the wife all up in my face for being stupidly stoned for the whole day.

    Decarb 240 F for 40 minutes uncovered.
5 grams Hash, Kief, Powdered buds
    1 tablespoon Coconut oil
    1/2 teaspoon Lecithin
    Combine
    Heat 220 F for 20 minutes
    Freeze (optional)
    Heat 220 F for 20 minutes (optional)
    Done

    Fills 30 (0) size capsules @ 83mg each.
    With Hash 1 drop = 3mg
    With buds 1 drop = 1mg

    And
[IMG] Same recipe works for any form of Cannabis. Buds to Concentrates of any kind.
This is done with 160 micron dry ice Kief.
Coconut oil hits hard in about 45 minutes.
Butter and all other cooking oils take about 2 hours to reach full throttle.
Lecithin acts like a supercharger and gets more bang from fewer mg.
This stuff can last all day. 8 hours is what I get.

Now for a true Alcohol based Oral tissue absorbed Tincture.

    Decarb 240 F for 40 minutes
Wash decarbed weed with 151-190 proof EverClear.
    Done.

[IMG] Booze is just out of the freezer. 1 full 750ml of 190 proof poured into a shy quart of decarbed Buds rough ground. Screw on lid. Shake 10 seconds. Pour out in small loads and press weed with potato ricer.

[IMG] I get back about 500ml of Tincture from each run.
Dose is anything from a couple of drops to a full eyedropper.
Hits and lasts like smoking does to me. Quick come on. Last an hour or so.
I don't use much of it in this form so 90% will be reduced to RSO and made into more Capsules for my own use.
Different stone then the hash based capsules. Made from the same plants you wouldn't expect a huge change in the high but.....
