Has anyone ever grown in an RV or camper?

Discussion in 'Micro Grows' started by oceansgreen, Oct 10, 2012.

  1. so ive been highly considering moving into a camper van for the freedom of it and lack of constant bills
and just about everything would work for my lifestyle without really much of any discomfort
    BUT

how would one go about growing a personal supply in an RV or camper van?
the vehicle wouldnt be connected to a constant power line and you cant just keep it plugged into the van all the time or you'll kill the battery or run all your gas out

so has anyone previosly overtaken the challenge of growing in a camper van or RV while living in it?
    if so please share

if not, feel free to brainstorm and share it:)

  2. Solar panels are your best friend and do work when built properly as they become super cost effective as opposed to purchasing them. A little bit of google research will give you TONS of information on this. My dad and I are working on that right now in case of hurricanes to power his generators and his whole house.

  3. thanks for the response, do you have any links as to where to begin looking for how to properly build a solar panel?
are you thinking the kind that concentrates solar energy onto a steam generator or building a solar panel thats like the ones that are so expensive to buy?
along those line a wind generator would work too and would be great for this area, i know of a few how-to on wind generators but honestly unless its less than a hundred bux to build i probably dont wanna put the money and time into it, being as lazy as i am:p
i do like the idea of an earth battery and have seen some that you simply jab into the ground, but i dont know where one would get the copper and magnesium rods at?
    any suggestions?

  4. haha you legend ive thought bout this before and yh solar panels sound great

  5. ask ricky and julian

Lol I would ask Ricky and Julian as well. But what I would do is build a windmill. You could probably build that cheaper than a solar panel I would think. Those panels are pretty expensive I believe. I watched a tv show a while back called the colony and they built a windmill out of a flag pole basically and some wood for the windmill itself. They also used bike gears for the gear system so it would face the wind obviously. Then they wired it to a bank if like 5 or 6 car battery's. I'm sure if you did some research on something like that you could find loads of ways to make them. Or build it your own way.

  7. RICKY AND JULLIAN?

i do know how to build windmills and i guess im not entirely against it, im just lazy lol, at the hieght of a camper van, a VAWT would be ideal so i wouldnt have to bother "steering" the turbine as it can start with wind from all directions

but to grow in an RV you wouldnt need 6 batteries cus you can only devote so much space to unessacary things such as growing smokes, you have to manage to squeeze in tiny micro grows between all of your vital things, your food, your water, your bed, your cook top, your sink, your fridge, and all that other stuff, so ideally i think i'd have maybe enough tiny micro grows (perhaps Drop o Green setups like Loki7's) that i could harvest every week or so (or however long it takes me to smoke the measly 2gs i would get from each plant)
to run these would definately not require 6 whole batteries, at least i wouldn't think they would

if i got the right camper van i could possibly grow one or two plants that were slightly larger and yielded an oz or more per harvest but the problem again is being able to devote a large enough section of my living space to grow in without comprimising nessacary parts of life, a whole case of DoG setups might be nice, and I THINK might run off of a small 9v a piece but buying a shit ton of 9v batteries all the time would be a bit of a hassle, which is why i brought up the question of obtaining a seperate power source

the roof could MAYBE be used for the wind generator and maybe for food crops and generating good soil, but i obviously couldnt grow "illegal" plants there, especially being that i could be driving around town and during low money times, camping discreetly in different spots everynighte, i.e. i wouldnt want to attract unnessacary attention

thanks for any and all input though:)
+rep to all who have posted thus far

  8. I don't but(google is a great resource) the solar panels I know you just need the paneling an invert-or a battery to store the juice, which can potentially run all of your housing needs also. Is this going to be a mobile or stationary type of can? If you are to lazy to build a wind generator then I wouldn't waste your time DIY'ing anything as it all takes a lot of effort and can be frustrating throughout the steps required.

  9. I used to cook meth with my high school science teacher in an RV. :devious:

    Lmfao. :bongin:

  11. hahaha

    hahaha

so you will be growing in your home and primary means of transportation?!
you are required to post a grow journal if this happens :hello:

^lol i'll see what i can do lol just remember that im a lazy stoner haha

ok and looked it up... Ricky and Julian

Wow came here to say the same thing. Hahaha.

    Get a book on horviculture.

  14. ^its not really that i dont know how to grow plants (have a large garden that im working on turning into a market garde) just trying to figure out a good setup for growing in a very small space without draining car battery...
but does trailer park boys actually have any episodes of them growing in a small space such as an RV? if so what season and episode?

  15. I have been thinking about buying an Class C motorhome and living in it. I dont see it being realistic having a grow in the RV. I think it would be better to have an outdoor grow somewhere. Would you drive this rv around???Been watching to much breaking bad lol

  16. I just came on this thread to see if anyone beat me to the Breaking Bad reference.

  17. ive never seen an ep of breaking bad but yes i would be traveling at least a little bit and outdoor would be nice but the trick is finding somewhere that isnt private property or heavily trafficked around here...

and drop of green set ups seem more convenient than guerrila growing... a lot of campers and vans have seperate batteries for appliances and shit, thgats probably a simple solution for me:)

  18. You MUST make a dedicated grow journal if you do this...breaking bad rv but with marijuana i think me and you will make great partners! Hmm let me think on this some more but im guessing solar powered is your best option. I see people do it for fish tanks all the time plus the govt even pays you to have solar panels installed i think.

  19. ^i'm glad this thread is getting so much responses... hope i keep getting more to help feed me more ideas

the main reason i dont want to just open up a spot for solar growing is that this will also be my living space, and space will be tight as is, likely just a little tighter than this room im in now, so there really wont be room to just have a plant growing... plus then i have to worry about weather and shit; just because my plants can take 55F doesnt mean ill be comfortable at that temp lol

as for solar plant growth though, if i did anything solar, i would look into something more like running fiber optic cords from the sindows or something, rather than reducing heating effeciency with a solar vent or whatever

and i'd definately like to think that i'll be making a thread to help satisfy my fellow blades need for live bud porn:D of course life happens and though i cant think of any reason why i couldnt make a thread, no guarentees:)
