Harvesting with mites

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by Username3333, Sep 23, 2021.

  1. I have two plants. I plucked a couple of leaves today to look at them under a microscope to check out the trichomes and to see whether they are ready to harvest. They’re ready to go, but I also found mites crawling around. Is it safe to harvest dry and smoke cannabis that has mites? Is there a way to get rid of them? I was thinking about dunking the buds in sinospad before drying. What do the pros say?

  2. Don't dunk in bug spray!! Just wash them in water or lemon juice and water..

  3. When drying, hang them upside down and the spider mites will congregate at the base of the tree.

I use that as a perfect time to vacuum them away.

  4. I have notorious spider mites. If your plants have them at harvest, best I have found is to dry straight in the fridge. From growing plant to hanging in the fridge stem, no leaving them out where they can be eaten even more while drying. For prevention I dip my hands in spider soap and run my hands up each of my 8 mainlined stems to get the underside of the leaves coated. I very rarely spray, but will if I see them.
    The soap is
    6 1/2 cups distilled water
1/4 cup Dr Woods Tea Soap
1/4 cup Dr Woods Peppermint Soap
    1 cup 70% isopryl alcohol
    1 Tbs Hydrogen peroxide
The idea is to disrupt their breeding cycle
(you can also add 1/2 Tsp Epsom if you desire any magnesium)
Run your wet hands from the bottom to the top of each branch. And spray the top of the medium.
