  1. I read about a thousand posts before I started my first crop. Started with ocean forest and don't have a reason to switch. I've heard that happy frog is not quite as 'hot' as OF, so that HF is easier on seedlings. Also read that you might need to add nutes earlier. With OF I don't generally add nutes until maybe week 6 or so. Other than an occasional shot of micronutrients. So mine in OF basically get little to no veg nutes, but do get regular flower nutes. I'm curious to see what others say because the thought of Happy Frog has passed through my head once or twice.

  2. i know my next run is going to be promix with earth worm castings perlite and compost manure thats it i hear happy frog is also good but i bet its costly if you plan on filling your tent with maybe 8 plants in 5 gallons you will need at least 10 cubic feet of soil i picked up my promix already on clearance at walmart 8 cubic ft for 20 bucks the happy frog will cost a few hundred i imagine

They are both pretty close in what nutes and other ingredients they contain. Happy frog however is "thinned out" out some with peat and other materials, making it less packed with nutes than Ocean forest. not as "hot".

While I have grown seeds start to finish in nothing but Ocean forest, sometimes it can burn or stunt seedlings with too many nutrients, nowadays, I generally use them like so.

Happy frog is my seedling soil, I start seeds in 1 liter pots of happy frog, I might throw in some Ocean forest, or hot stuff like the build a soil 3.0 mix on the very bottom of the pot, plus mix in some extra perlite.

Somewhere between weeks 2-5 of seedlings breaking ground (generally when I see the roots start to hit the bottom) I up-pot them to 5 gallon (auto) or 7 gallon (photo) pots. These pots are often just straight Ocean forest, or 3.0 mix, or something "hot".

while its not an earth shaking difference, my plants do seem to get off to better starts in the happy frog with later transplant to Ocean forest. Hope this helped.
