I have a 400 watt metal halide on order but figured I would like a small fluro for seedlings butthey don't have any at the local home depot. They do have a small portable 500 watt halogen for 9.99 so I figured for the price I would ask. If not, what watt fluro would suffice for a week of light prior to dropping them under the 400 watt MH and what height for the MH should I startat?
The halogen will do nothing...they are usless for growing, I'd just grab a pack of CFL (compact florecents lights)...and about 2-23watts should do it. Vokal
i aggree with vokal, a coupple of small clf's are ideal for seedlings for the 1st week or so till they can handle the mh.
I got tired of trolling ebay and decided for around the same price to get a switchable 400 watt ballast here for what it is worth. Then got a 400 watt mh bulb on ebay for 20$. http://www.clubhydro.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=486
Thanks for the info Vokal, that is what I figured. I get some cheap ones at walmart. Now to just figure out what soil I want. I don't need a 50 lb bag of sunshine 4 but I do want to go organic. I read on here to start high in nites so that is a start. Great site btw. When I get a digital cam,I'll start a journal.
