Half of America thinks the U.S. election is rigged

Discussion in 'Politics' started by Bluntzilla420, Apr 27, 2016.

  1. "Some 51 percent of likely voters who responded to the April 21-26 online survey said they believed the primary system was "rigged" against some candidates. Some 71 percent of respondents said they would prefer to pick their party’s nominee with a direct vote, cutting out the use of delegates as intermediaries.

The results also showed 27 percent of likely voters did not understand how the primary process works and 44 percent did not understand why delegates were involved in the first place. The responses were about the same for Republicans and Democrats.

Overall, nearly half said they would also prefer a single primary day in which all states held their nominating contests together - as opposed to the current system of spreading them out for months."

  2. But surely the presidential election isn't rigged, you know with the delegates there, I mean electoral college.

  3. Define rigged. Our founding fathers were the wealthy of that time. Basically, they wanted to be free of the King of England, not to create a land of equality and freedom for all, but to create a land that they could rule themselves. IOW, a plutocracy. In the beginning only land owners which comprised only a small fraction of the population could vote. A country ruled by the elite for the elite.

  4. Rigged in the sense that votes don't matter, delegate math is a facade to deflect from the popular vote (that's how Dubya beat Gore, you know), that candidates are chosen by the establishment and are coronated before voting ever takes place (look at Obama and Hillary, for example), that money has an extremely major (and negative) impact on the democratic process, that a plethora of primaries are closed and do not let independents -- who composed 40 percent of the general electorate -- participate unless they are registered (sometimes seven months beforehand), that caucuses and primaries are spread out over such a long period of time rather than held in very close proximity (or on the same day), that Election Day is not a national holiday (voter suppression), etc.

When half a nation as powerful as the U.S. thinks it's a set up, that says a lot about the process -- or lack thereof.

  5. I wouldn't call them rigged, I'd probably not call them elections altogether, especially with the shame that was Colorado caucus

  6. IDK if it's rigged directly but it's confusing as fuck that doesn't seem like it has the best intentions for the regular voters.

  7. Hilarys going to win. Its not rigged, but its obvious who will win.

Technically the Electoral College had nothing to do with Dubya beating Gore.
No delegates changed their votes against their State's popular vote.
The Supreme Court ruled invalid the recount of Florida's hanging chad mess, thusly giving Dubya Florida's popular vote

If you want a pure popular vote nation wide, then yes there can be a case for dropping the Electoral College.

Only in a very few rare cases has a delegate gone against the States popular vote.

  13. Very true.
I didn't spell that out, but thought by saying they rarely do, that it was implied. Sorry about that.

  15. Why have an electoral college? So the uneducated masses don't elect a psychopath into the White House.

  16. You do understand that that is the logic behind any tyrannical form of government, right?
