Growing

  1. Granted im new to growing, but all of these lighting things, certain soil, fans, etc.. are all to make the plant healthier and increase the yield under optimal conditions. But isnt is a weed? ive heard many people say this, and it does grow almost anywhere, so is it Necessary, to do all of that stuff. Im sure mine will grow, just not as good as it can, but im not gonna get a good set up till i get my own place, now im living in an off-campus house with other people, renting, so i cant do most of the stuff.

  2. Well a plant won"t grow properly under a regular household light bulb. So yes, you need special lighting. A plan't won't grow properly in a room with a temperature over 95 F.+ So yes, you need some sort of ventelation. You need good soil to grow a plant properly, or it has a higher chance of dying if you use the wrong soil. You don't really need foil and stuff though. You don't really need anything fancy, although it would be best if you do, but you will need the basics: Good soil, ventilation, good light source, and some common sense/tender loving care.

  3. my house is around 73F, I have one of those 65w garden bulbs will be getting a CFL today, what strength? right now only one plant is growing. Also do i have to have light on it 24/7? thats a lot, I have some soil, that has compost and whatever else, and its dark, seems rich, i have a fan, that ill be putting on soon when it gets bigger.

  4. Good temperature for now. Not sure about that garden bulb, depends on its color temperature. I would recommend you get some CFL's soon.
You need atleast 18 hours of light on it for now, some people do 18, 20, or 24 during veg.
Put the fan on it now, this will encourage stem strength and root growth.

  5. im gonna go pick up some cfls today, what kind? and wattage?

Also put the fan facing the sprout, or away, sucking the air?

and how much water, i went to class came home and it was drooping a bit on the side of the planter.

  6. so i got some cfls, the daylight ones, its been on the plant for about 3 and a half hours and already it looks more vibrant, yay!, on the other hand my seedlings havent sprouted yet, they are in a dark spot and being watered, its been 3 days tomorrow, i didnt put them in paper towel first, but my first one didnt need that either, and thats growing. heres pics of it

  7. does anybody care to help?

Also it sprouted sunday, when will it start showing substantial growth, yes im impatient, but just wondering, its almost 5 inches now and the cerrated leaves are getting bigger

  8. I just started a 4 plant grow earlier in the month.:) It took about two days for my seeds to germinate with the wet towel method. Then another three days went by before I saw any sprouts. Alas, when I began growing, I hadn't read this forum at all yet and was going straight from some of Rosenthal's grow books. So I had my poor defenseless seedlings growing in Miracle Grow with time release ferts. Since I'm just growing bagseed I figured I wouldn't go overboard with crazy soils and bat guano. I got the Walmart special: 1.19 for a huge bag.:D My plants are 19 days since sprouting and are working on their sixth nodes.:hello: Hopefully I'll be able to start flowering in 1 - 2 weeks.
What actual wattage for cfls do you have going and how far away are you keeping them from the plant(s)? I can't judge distance very well in photos. If you keep the lights closer to the plants, (a few inches) they don't stretch as much. Plus, you can put more soil in those peat cups. Don't be afraid to bury the stretched main stem. The other leaves will only grow beyond the first set of leaves, so all that stem is pretty much useless.
And one thing I learned about those jiffy pot peat cups is that if you water your sprouts too often and keep the cup damp all the time, mold can and does start to grow on the outside of the cup. So be carefull not to overwater.
Sorry about the behemothicly huge post but this is my first one. If you have any questions about your grow or mine, I'll see what little knowledge I can impart.

  9. move light about 4-6" away from plant it needs to be closer to prevent stretching its already doing that and maybe you should only grow 2-3 till you get better lights the plants wont get enough light for all that your growing

  10. me? right now thats the only one growing, and the light is that close now with a cfl bulb

19 day vegetative? damn thats short

    thanks majik

and about the watering, they dont seem to dry out, the soil that is, and im using a squirt bottle, and will be more careful now
