  1. Im new at growing and not sure what type of light to use. I was using a heat lamp im not sure if this would rly work or not at first i had it a lil close to the plants so I moved it away...I bought a grow light by phillips but I read on the forum it was not good so I took it back..now i just have the heat lamp...any info would be good ive looked up the basic stuff about what kinda lights like HIDS and the types just not rly sure how much they would run I was thinking about running down to a hydroponic store ..the guy at home depot said they didnt have anything worth buying that would work well for indoor plants

  3. thank you..how many watts of fluros should I need for a very small space max 2 plants

  4. Why use a heat lamp? It is worthless for growing unless it is cold in your room :)

If you are on a budget, get some cheap fluros from Walmart. Lights of America is the brand though I notice they now sell more known brand names as well. Poke around the grow journals posted by Vokal and Polski as they both have done all fluro grows with HUGE results.

You really want lumens but to aproximate, you want 100w per sq foot. Do not use the 15w = 100w of light! advertisment on the bulbs to mean it = 100w. If it uses 15w, that is what you go by. (4) 50-60w CFL bulbs should be fine for a small 2 foot space or you could use the long tubes too. I recently bought a 5' long fixture with 2 fluro bulbs at Walmart for under $20.

  5. i dont have much space i have it set up under my stairs around 5 steps up then i have a door closing it off so its not a big area. The plant could most likely only grow acouple feet tall isnt there a way to make it more"bushy" if you trim something

  6. igotammo, this is the deal. dont go with fluros, CFLs or heat lamps. IF your going to spend the money, you might as well purchase some HIDS. all you need is a switchable or dual spectrum ballast with a reflector, some soil, mylar, ventilation, and fertilizers to keep a plant happy. I suggest for 2 plants to get a 250 watt switchable HPS/MH. Use the MH for the vegetative state and HPS for the flowering. I hardly think you'd be disappointed. If you have the space, buy a 400 watt switchable since the price difference is so insignificant. Plan on spending between 500 and 1000 dollars for your first good grow room. From there, you will never have to buy these components again unless you plan to expand your operation. A 400 watt can cover an area from 16 to 36 square feet. Im using a 400 watt and im actually only growing in 8 sq. feet with it. Gluck and if you neeed anyhelp, id be glad to inform you. Let me know when you start your crop. Im going to start mine by october 1st.
