Grow log: Yellow leaves (Need advise)

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by fred_light, Sep 8, 2006.

  1. Hi, my friends crop (lame, but true) needs some advise.

As you can see from the pics, the leaves are yellow on the edge. He is thinking malnutrition, and has tried with 2 weak Epson salt solutions, that have seemed to help some, but not alot.

The pics are taken in 2 different time periodes.

    1. 2 weeks into reveg from a vegged clone.
    2. 2 days into 12/12.

The setup is 3x600W HPS, and regular (adviced use for soil = half hydro) use of The Floraseries.
Nutes every second watering, and 6.5 pH. Mixed grow soil (worked before).

    31.6 degrees C is 89 Farn.
Moist is 37% ish (know it's a bit low)

1st pic: Temp 2 weeks into reveg from vegged mother clone (think it's Original Haze)

2nd pic: Again 2 weeks into reveg. Setup.

3rd pic: 2 days into 12/12, you can see yellow leaves clear. You can also spot them on the 2nd pic.

4th pic: Overview, and also you can see yellow

Anyone see an obvious malnutrition? Magnesium maybe?

I think I can answer every question you guys may have :) But I am not sure. New to me, but I have read up. Hehe.

Thx in advance for helping a newbie.

  2. Nice grow.
Being that the veins are green and the outer part of the leave is yellow, leads me to believe that they are indeed magnesium deficient. Give them 1 tsp (teaspoon) of Epsom Salt per gallon of water and you can even foliar spray them too. They should clear up in a few days. Oh, and your temperature is a tad bit too hot. Try to get that lower if you can. Is the water ph you give it at 6.5? What is the PH of the soil itself?

  3. Okay, thanks for feedback. I'll tell him to try more Epsom Salt. Is there a danger for overdoing it with 1 tsp/gall? If it is not Magnesium deficit thats causing it?

Yes, temp is somewhat high. Picture taken in the middle of summer, now fall is coming and temp should be better. Also a humidor is taken in use after the humidity pic was taken, it should also fix the low humidity (now it's 12/12 he's gonna keep low anyway).

Water is given at pH 6.5, haven't been able to measure the soil pH, since he's still waiting for an ordered soil pH measurer (2 months overdue :().

Keep the good advise flowing :)

  4. smkVTEC is correct its a mag. def.

if it were one plant Id say epsom salts and wait and see but, my concernes are that all the plants are showing the same signs of trouble,I really feel you need to get to the bottom of this issue or it may progress

what is this mixed grow soil? MG? or similar premix soil with added nuts?
what is the PH of the water, possibly backoff the nutes a bit to see if that is the issue
there is a common issue affecting all the plants that needs to be resolved

  5. I haven't been on grow forums in a long time but I am seeing more and more Mg deficiency with many growers. I have never had a Mg deficiency. Either I pick good soil and good ferts or I am very lucky.

Little extra tip: Whenever I am having problems with my sick plants I like to back the lights off just a little to keep from injuring the plants further. The heat coming off the lights (its kinda warm in that grow area and dry) could cause more damaged.
