Grow Box, Wood, Metal, Plastic? What's best?

  1. I'm building a new box, thinking of just buying a storage cabinet, (I'd much rather build a closet in my garage but plan to move this spring and want something I can just bring with me rather than do all the work just to have to re-do it in 8 months or so)

So anyways, just curious on others experiences with what materials, plastic like the rubbermaid storage cabinets seem nice but I guess would be hard to lightproof. I really like the metal storage cabinets but it will be in my garage, I live in the midwest and winters can get chilly, but my garage will be heated as necessary, would I need to insulate one of these for temps and sound?

Lastly is wood, probably what I'll go with, but the others seem like the sizes I want are easier to come by pre-made.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. assuming you can control the temperature, insulation means that there wont be as much fluctuation in temperature due to outside conditions.

wood is probably the easiest material to work with. if you have any tools, or a trustworthy friend with tools, you could make your own box to your own specs! plenty of people have woodworking tools, but not everybody has a sheetmetal break/welder/riveter/etc..

wood also insulates sound better than thin plastic or sheetmetal...

I'd go wood, but people can get creative in whatever aspect/medium they want.
