so i got this grinder about a week ago for $18 .which at the time i thought was a lot just for a grinder. ( rant below) I got it to grind my herb because i also bought a mflb (great vaporizer btw) anyway when i was grinding the other day i noticed very very small shiny metal looking particles ( obviously from the grinder ). I started to look online for a similar problems and i found many other people with same or worse situations with aluminum grinders. And i came upon people saying to clean grinder when first bought or to deburr? How to de burr a grinder ?any advice would be greatly appreciated . Many people also said " you get what you pay for" which i guess is true but i do not really know about paying $40 and up for a grinder because in reality all you really need is a tool to grind up a herb( which imo should not even exceed $20). I read stories of people getting brand name grinders like space case ( which are very expensive) and still getting metal shavings. WTf?So now am stuck in a rut cause i do not know what kind of grinder to get seeing as every grinder has some kind of problem no matter if its aluminum, wood , or plastic. I dont even want to use the damn thing cause of those damn particles. Which means i cant even grind my herb to use in my mflb (fml right now). I just felt pissed cause now i wasted $18 on a pos grinder that leaves grey shit in my beautiful herb. Tl;dr Bought shit grinder thats leaves shitty metal particles in bud. How to deburr grinder? Why the hell do good grinders have to cost so much.
Cannot post pic because on moblie but i found a link with a grinder that looks like mine http://www.saccashandcarry.com/San-Diego-Chargers-57mm-Aluminum-Grinder_p_3398.html Except mine has the lid on the left
Long story short, you have just deburred your grinder by using it. It's most likely done giving you free treats. Pick out the pieces you can see, vape the shit out of that weed and carry on enjoying life with a new grinder.
I spent $9 on my grinder from amazon 5 years ago. People who say you need a space case or something to get it to last are bullshitting. It's fucking metal. Weed is a fucking plant. Witch one is going to break witch? Just take care of them and they last forever. But i deburred mine by sitting down with a knife one day and shaving down every sharp edge, it took hours. But i've never had an issue since with flakes. And i have checked. Thoroughly.
ok, if you want a good grinder you can count on, it is a little bit of an investment. If you want a grinder you're not going to have any problems with and does NOT have metal shavings from the grinder in your bud, buy a SharpStone grinder straight up. I have had mine for over a year and there has never been any problem whatsoever. There is a little more to a good grinder than just grinding up weed. If you get a good grinder, there are 4 parts to it. There is the lid on the top that is secured on the top by magnets, take the lid off, put the bud in the grinder-all along the sides, not in the middle though. Push the lid down until it's at the bottom, and move the lid back and forth. You don't have to spin it in a circle or anything, just move it back and forth from side to side about a half inch or so in each direction. You unscrew the middle and this is where you weed is all growned up. Now, a nice grinder has one more part you unscrew at the bottom, it's the same size as the lid on the top. The place where you dump out the weed, there is a screen as the bottom of this section. When you unscrew the bottom of the grinder-which you dont do often, it takes awhile to get alot. But the smallest paritcles of the weed fall through the screen and land on the bottom of the grinder. This is called keif. It's bascially the purest form of THC in dry form. It's full of THC. It takes a long time to collect a lot of keif. If you put keif in a bowl, you hit it very lightly and cough up a storm. One hit of keif is like hitting 4 bowls at once-that's how high you get on one hit. So these are the different sections of a good grinder. Now, the reason I said to get a Sharpstone. More often than not, even if you have a grinder, you still somewhat clean the weed before you put it in the grinder to grinder it up. So usually you break up the bud, get the seeds out so they don't grind up with the grinder cuz it sucks trying to pick out little pieces of seed out of grounded up weed that's going to stick to your finger as you're trying to discard seed pieces. Everything about the blades in a Sharpstone make it a perfect grinder. The placement of the blades. The amount of space there is between the blades. And even the size of the holes where the weed falls through. The blades are placed far enough apart that they don't grind up seeds. The size of the holes are just slightly bigger than a good-sized weed seed. This means that you don't have to worry about cleaning weed before putting it into a grinder, just break up a bud, placed it around the sides of the grinder, and push the lid down and turn. When you look through the weed after you dump it out, you will see solid, undamaged weed seeds admist your perfectly grounded up weed. You can just pick them up whole and toss them. My advice is if you don't get a good grinder than just don't get one. This is what I did myself, i waited til i could afford a good one because one that isn't a good grinder is bascially a throwing of your money away. More often than not the grinder fucks with the weed, such as getting metal shavings in yo green. If you're buying a grinder have at least 40 bucks with you. It may seem a little pricey to you, but it's going to be the only grinder that you'll ever have to buy. A good grinder LASTS so think of it as an investment. When you hold a Sharpstone in your hand, you can feel the quality and durabilty, has a good weight to it as well while a lot of cheaper grinders don't have that much weight to them. Once you hold a good grinder you'll be able to tell right off the back. The sharpstone I described is usually 40 dollars. There are shorter ones, meaning not as tall meaning not as many aparments, so you dont have a place for keif buildup, you just dump it out with the weed each time you grind. They don't get any smaller in circumference the ones i described, they're about 3 inches across. And they get a lot bigger, to about twice as wide and twice as high if you wanted to grind like an O all at once. Usually these big ones are owned by dealers more often than not. And these are around 160 dollars. Just don't buy a cheap grinder- i know 18 dollars might not seem cheap but when it comes to a grinder it is. You will just keep buying cheap grinders and eventually it ends up costing more than just buying one good grinder from the beginning. And a grinder is something you really do want to get a brand name of-they know what they're doing and they have it down to a stoner science, those other companies don't know what the hell they're doing. More often than not they put the blades too close together, resulting in those metal shavings you have. Out of all brand names, I personally wouldn't go with any other than Sharpstone, and there's only a few legitimate brand name grinder companies.
Bro... I've seen some of my posts before and thought i typed a lot... but dammmm.... And again, my $9, 4 piece grinder, from amazon, with free shipping, is 5x older than your sharpstone. And i can gaurantee my grinder gets used more. Just take care of your grinder and it lasts. You do NOT need to spend $50 + on a grinder. Clean it occasionally and don't put in too much for it to handle.
