Green light from a MH Lumalux Bulb?

  1. Hey all... :)

Had a quick question. Fired up this MH bulb and the light coming from it is green??

I've always noticed MH to be a blue-white sorta color... what's with this green?

I mean, we're talking X-files creepy green here.

    Bad bulb? Special bulb?

Just listed as a Lumalux MH Nothing fancy other than it's a Universal position bulb...

    Anyone?

  2. Sounds like crappy bulb to me. I'd get a different brand next time. I don't think I have to tell you that plants don't use green light. Maybe it has something to do with the process to make it a universal position bulb?

  3. How old is the bulb and how long has it been used since new?
MH Bulbs need to be replaced ever 12-16 months. The pros replace MH after 6 months of continuous 18/6 because lumens start to decrease after that time. When they start go bad they might start to change color; who knows?

  4. Bulb has shown same green color since new. If anything the color has faded a bit. Only used for a few months at various times... about 2 months total hours now.

Ballast and light runs significantly cooler when HPS bulb is in and switched over. Helps quite a bit as my a/c unit is a wee small for the kind of heat it was putting out before.

Now that I think back on it... it was thrown into the deal for the light kit in the first place for free. Thought it was kind of weird at the time but hey...:smoking:

Can anyone recommend a good 1K MH bulb for a switchable Mag ballast?
