Hey guys! So today at work, they sent me home early because I smelled like weed which is odd because I showered and I haven't smoked weed since last night. I was told to come in tomorrow to talk about future employment. Has anyone been in a situation like this before and if so, how do you handle it going forward regardless if the end result is continuing to work at my current job or being fired/laid off? What about in terms of future employment? I'd like to think given this is a weed community that we have all dealt with this at some point in our lives so any input would be appreciated. Thank you so much in advance. Edit Update: They ended up laying me off. Wasn't only cause of this sadly but I'm ready for something new but not upset. Could of been worse imo.
uh oh! happens to the best of us bro. if they fire u at least u could draw unemployment ! Keep your head up lol
They will likely give you a drug test. An oral saliva test is the easiest to beat- even just brushing your whole mouth and rinsing with an alcohol mouth wash a couple of times has worked. But they are more likely to give you a urine test, which is harder to beat. a cheap, low dose "B" vitamin and dilution are your best bet, but you will likely test positive. Sorry!
The good thing is they don't drug test and don't plan on it so that's the good news. Yeah that's what I'm hoping will happen at least if they end up getting rid of me. Have you ever been in a situation like this before? If so, how did it play out for you in the long term?
It depends on the state also. Some states can fire you w/o for any reason unless you have a contract or belong to a union. Some professions, hospital fields, teachers, etc... are held to a higher standards and they can fire you for simply having a bad outcome. I have a friend who got fired for shoplifting (he had started a new medication, he's a good guy) less than $50. Some states it's near impossible to fire someone short of murder. If your old enough you could always tell your boss it was the kids weed.
What helps (I'm pretty sure) is that I live in Arizona and work in video production. So given I'm not in a field that's super super super strict on marijuana usage in a state where it's recreational I'd like to think that would be helpful versus if something like this were to happen to me a decade or so ago.
Well there ya go! IF they call you in, be apologetic, go along with things. But I'd still be careful moving forward!
Just say you didn't smoke before work, you never have and never will go into work high but you were around someone else that smoked that day. I feel like that's the best thing to say but have your story straight and have it be an alibi that if they did waste their time looking into you could sell it. Who tf goes around smelling employees anyway. You working for Biden?
haha seriously! Honestly I feel like it's because someone doesn't like me cause I'm gay but know they can't use that against me so using the weed against me instead.
Just as an update, I did officially get laid off. Though I've been at this job for 6 1/2 years. Atm I'm not that upset cause I'm ready for something new that fits more of who I am right now. Yes. It is recreational in Arizona. Unfortunately, even though my job does not drug test, marijuana is still being treated at many jobs like as if it's illegal and is used against you, which imo is disgusting especially for those that function better at their job while high.
Any background? A dangerous job? children involved? big company vs a mom & pop? guaged ears/dreds/tats/nose ring with a people/service type job in a redneck area? the weed could be just the excuse they were looking for??? BTDT got the T shirt. C'mon spill.
Just say it was some aftershave you had on man lol, next time make sure you don't smoke in/near your work clothes & just spray a shit ton of aftershave on urself before work.... Be known as that dude who wears too much aftershave lmaoooooo
IMO if recreational then they can't fire you for that. # 1 admit no guilt EVER. #2 smell is not a crime nor a fire able offense. If it's TRULY a lay off, then am I able to be rehired? (whether you want to go back or not it looks better if u can. good luck. I know that under the bus view all too well.
The last job I had they let me & other workers smoke Js next to the managers before/on breaks.. they didn't care as long as the work got done & we always finished before the next shift took over
I really hope someday the United States will be at this point someday. People in the professional field think too low on stoners yet if I smoke nicotine and drink no one cares. I agree it is messed up. Either way, the ONLY way I could see them being open to rehire me is either if my path forward gives me way more fame where the positive reputation outmatches my mistakes with them, the staff involved in making the decision to fire me no longer works there, or the acceptance of weed has gotten so high that their outlook/acceptance on it has improved.
thanks for the link: previous Even today my hairdressers moans that my hair smells of weed, to that I reply my babe and I use hemp based products from the 'Body Shop" ...lol and yes today weed is a recognized medicine it sounds as if your boss wants you out, and using any flimsy excuse to crash your job, this happens a lot, remember you are working for a company that offers a service it don't actually do anything Blame yourself for not recognizing the signs, but chill its a dent to your ego is all, and will happen again in this or any service industry you might do as me ...and check back in 6 months to either find a new management, wanting you back, or worse the place has closed, either way you are better being in a place that you are actually wanted,. in passing you might have said your shirt is made of hemp, ...lol good luck
I worked in a warehouse bro the place was trash but the people/money kept me there lmaoooooo, the company was that bad people would rather work agency then sign with them full-time & be shit over but get guaranteed money
