Got complimented by a total stranger

  1. So the other day I was in my local market. It's the only one in my very small town and has 2 lines, 1 of which was closed at the time I was going to check out. I had $50 worth of assorted crap in my cart.

I beat an older gentlemen to the line by about 5 steps however he only had some milk and bread so I let him go in front of me. As he paid for his purchases, he turned to me and said "You have good manners. You should be proud of yourself young man." I was so surprised I didn't even say anything back, I just kinda nodded my head, it was more of a head jerk haha. Then he just turned and walked out of the store.

Such a simple act really made my day which hadn't been going very well. I figured I would share because I'm sure others have stories of simple acts that really improved their day. It would be nice to read some of them when I need to haha.

  2. Those are some good manners, the old man was right. :p

People should do small acts of kindness like that more often. Just the little things like holding open a door for someone or asking your cashier how they're doing can really brighten up someones day, if even just a little.

There are too many people in the world who just don't give shit about being kind anymore. :poke:

  3. I had an old man let me go ahead of him because he had an entire cart of groceries and I just needed cigarettes. I thought to myself, "what a nice old man".

  4. Thanks Junkiedays :D I agree, taking 5 seconds to hold a door for someone isn't that big of a sacrifice. People should be more conscious of others in general imo.

    Haha, that's cool mrgoodsmoke.

  5. I always try to hold doors open for people and shit.

Sometimes they give me a funny look as if I have some kind of devious motive behind my politeness.

They're right, I'm secretly planning to take over the world, one door-hold at a time.

  6. Not a sacrifice, but it's awkward when you realize how far away they really are lol.

Acts like these would make this world a better place.

  7. I opened the door for a lady once and she told me to get the hell out of her way. Now people can hold their own doors.

  8. Lol. I'm not saying everyone should become a porter every time someone's about to enter a building, but if they're carrying a lot of stuff, I would try to help them out.

  9. At Best Buy, I overheard a conversation from a mother to son "I just spent 14 hundred dollars on a TV, I don't want to spend $120 for a cable (talking about HDMI cables)"

So I walk over to them and I'm like "What do you want to know about HDMI cables?"

At first she gave me the most skeptical look, like I was going to open my coat with a bunch of off brand cables, but I told her I have a degree in electrical engineering and have done enough research to know that the Monster cables they were getting shoved down their throat by the Best Buy employee were down right rip offs.

I went on to tell them about NewEgg and how every HDMI cable will give to the same results, and how I paid 7 dollars for a 10 footer online and it will be the same picture quality. The Best Buy guy came swooping back to them and started blowing me off and saying the exact opposite of what I was saying. The mother stood there not knowing who to believe, so I just said "Do your research, and I walked away". I ran into them at the check out line, and saw they had Monster cables and I gave a little puff through my nose in laughter.. Some people don't know when they are being helped..

  10. I think this means you can now insult a total stranger and still be even w/ karma.

  11. I like how you think haha.

  12. Sometimes helping people has there downsides...

One time i was really high and there was this old man trying to catch his dog and i blocked the dog and helped him grab it so he can get it

and he just screamed "Move out the fucking way when you see me trying to grab my dog fucking move"

At first i was just like  i had no idea what to say

Then i was like whatever man if it wasnt for me in the first place you probally wouldnt of got that dog.

Some people just dont understand random acts of kindness

I wish there were more people like you in the world. People should be more respectful and considerate.

  14. See man that's karma, what goes around comes around

  15. It's a revolution.

    I am polite.
Most people are friendly enough to shoot me a smile.
However, some people are weirded out by acts of kindness.
    Which amazes me.
Why can't you just appreciate it?
    Lighten up. jeez.
    Life is good.
    Smile.
    :)

  16. I had two dollars in quarters a few months ago that I had to get gas with. I was on E and I couldn't make it to where I was going without getting gas, and that's seriously all the change I had in my car. When I went inside to pay, the guy behind me was like, "2 dollars? That's not even a gallon of gas, here." And he put down 5 more dollars! It was crazy, no one has ever done something so randomly and insanely nice. I just sorta stood there for a second before thanking him 100 times :p

  17. You have good manners. You should be proud of yourself young man.

  18. 1. kudos for actually having good manners
    2. wanna make out?

  19. Do that onto others that you wish for them to relinquish upon yourself.. Time is but an illusion.

  20. ya i always hold doors for people going into stores, i don't speed up when people try to change lanes in front of me (unlike most where i live). Yunno basic common courtesy stuff and ya i get looks from people like this never happens to people, it takes a couple of seconds its not a big deal....

And ya as a side note i did have some feminist mouth off to me in college for holding the door open for her, so i told her to fuck off, so ya i hear you occasionally you get some idiots that take kindness for weakness
