So finally after months of searching and filling out over a hundred applications I got a job. I feel so relieved to have an income and not see money just fly out of my bank account. I got a job as a seafood cook at Mariano's. I'm going to be making all kinds of sushi. Another plus is starting out I'm making over minimum wage. I'm pretty happy and excited 😊 Feel free to share some stories of your struggle to get a job or how you felt when you got one. Maybe you hated it or maybe you loved it. Post it 😋
Well done mate. Since I lift school in 2006 I've only been out of work for 1-2 months, that was the transition between my last job and this current job. I'm sick of this place but I've been applying, I did get a job but turned it down as the money and shifts weren't as advertised and they were crap, shall keep applying for now.
Do you have any cooking experience? I'd apply for a cooking job but I don't know shit about cooking. Do they teach you lol?Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum

I think the director saw potential in me because I was genuinely interested in that position and would like to learn. Me and him also kinda made an instant connection so I guess liking me might have helped. You have to get experience somewhere and as hard as it is I'm lucky that this is my starting point.
Yes, they teach you. My manager is going to teach me how to do everything. From preparation to making the sushi to the fancy stuff. He's some seafood specialist from Korea and I was told that I'll be getting some great training but I haven't met him yet.

congrats bro, i was in your shoes not too long ago at all, it totally pays off bro, i'm a little bit down the road, put some money in a 401k, about to be eligible to get into the bonus system (what they call full time, better benefits as well, etc)
As much as I love the farm work I've done for years I'm lookin for a job that's not under the table anymore, the under the table shit aint cuttin it no more. I did landscaping back in high school and hated the job but I made damn good money. I'd love to have that job again

I don't have to many bills yet since I'm not living on my own but I want to be more independent. Plus car bills and clothes and such. Its also nice to save.

awesome bro, totally forgot to mention i cook too!!! i cook asian cuisine at a casino buffet........i'm a second level cook in the restaurant, (of 3) then sous chef is next, but i've heard level 3 cook is really where it's at, full benefits, 18 bucks an hour...which i've heard actually comes out better in the real world than the sous chef position (starts at 33k salary) (which means you work a TON of hours.. right now i pull a cool hundred hours a pay period and ~12 bucks an hour......i've got hella cooking experience though
Congrats man I'm looking for a job. I have one at home but I'm away at school and need to get one because up here I barely spend any money except on bud so most of it would be saved and I need it so I can pay the rest of my tuition and buy a car and have more job opportunities. I've applied to everywhere near by and haven't even gotten a call it gets frustrating and discouraging sometimes but that's life I guess
