Good Method of Repelling All Animals

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Outdoors' started by LilMuskrat, Jul 15, 2019.

  1. I plan on starting growing outdoors in an open area where there are tons of animals that could ruin the grow easily such as deer, raccoons, rabbits, birds, squirrels, cats, coyotes, etc. and I need a way to keep my plants safe throughout the entire grow process. I plan on using urine (human urine) as I have heard that it can work well but I am looking for a method or methods to ensure the safety of the grow. Deer are the main worry as I have TONS of deer in the area I plan to grow and I have deer repellent for other plants but i'm not sure if that is okay for marijuana plants. For the urine and other things I could use would I put them in containers and leave them around the plants or would I spray the plants with them? And what kinds of mixtures should I use? Thanks in advance for the help everyone.

  2. Moth balls help as well. Besides that, if you can find a skunk they will protect anything inside it’s turf.

  3. Do not spray your plants with piss please lol just don’t lol mark trees and stones and other places that hold scent better.

  4. I have seen quite a few skunks in my yard so I know they are in the area, would I just have to hope one will protect my plants?

  5. Most animals avoid them so they help but won’t always be there so maybe a physical barrier may help. Those cheap pest/bird covers for fruit and veggies works.

  6. I've been using bars of Irish spring to some success. Had a squirrel who didn't give a shit, but most other critters stay weary.

  7. I'm not sure dear even like cannabis. I know squirrels, skunks and raccoons are not interested in my cannabis. Even my chickens that love most things green won't touch my plants. I think it only the insects you have to worry about. Besides, piss stinks on a hot day. Who wants a lovely garden that smells like urine?

  8. A deer will definitely demolish a plant, more so if the plant isn't more than a month old.

  10. Well if that's the case, I would just buy some metal caging to put around each plant. So much easier.[IMG]

  11. Make sure it goes around each plant individualy. Deer can clear 7ft easily.

  12. I guess it depends where you live. I've had a couple isolated situations with deer - they would take a sample munch then move on. Guess they don't care for the peppery taste. Rodents like rabbits and mountain beaver have done some damage, but those were also one off and seemed unique to a specific location.
Once I had a mother bear with a young cub dig up one of my month old plants. I replanted it, and a couple weeks later she'd dug it up again, and just so I got the message, she mauled the plant beyond salvage and pulled my water jug out from behind a bush biting the neck of the jug and mashing it flat. Another plant nearby, she took a dump a few feet away to announce her presence - not uncommon with bears - and dug a single paw scoop
out of the soft growing medium at the base of the plant, just to let me know, if I wasn't careful, she'd do the same with that plant as well! Generally, bears are pretty good about leaving plants alone, though.

  13. I found bear traps keep animals and people away while also trapping those dumb enough to venture too close

  14. It seems like setting up a culvert trap would be kind of conspicuous! What do you use as bait to entice something to go into the culvert? Canned pink salmon rubbed on a suspended burlap sack ball? Besides, doesn't trapping something run counter intuitive to repelling it?

  15. If you trap it, it wont come back again. Besides that this was obviously a joke.

  16. Where did you find cage with that size mesh?

  17. What? Do you then relocate the trapped subject after outfitting it first with a radio collar?

  18. Sure or cook it for dinner barring it being human of course, waste not want not my fine sir.

  19. You can fashion your own cages using hardware cloth. It comes in rolls typically with either 1/8" or 1/4" mesh. Sells for a few cents a foot at most home centers and hardware stores.
