my mom is thinking about buying me a new rig for Christmas/birthday.( perks of living at home) before i get flamed i told her building a rig is 100% cheaper but she doesn't feel comfortable with that and would rather have best buys warranty( i know they over charge but shes convinced). best buy gave her a price check of 999.99 for a solid alienware rig. but i wanted you guys to check this one and tell me if its a solid purchase/what you guys would add/subtract. The Dell Online Store: Build Your System
It's okay But not for serious gaming. You'd first of all need a better graphics card for anything serious (more memory, more processing power), and maybe an i5 instead of an i3... Alienware is pretty overpriced, especially considering this setup doesn't even include a monitor or basic peripherals. Plus it's from Dell which is generally unreliable and proprietary (or used to be at least). I'd say try to convince her to buy individual parts and let you assemble it. Newegg would be the place to look. Otherwise idk...
idk if im looking at the same computer...alienware x51? skimpiest power supply ive ever seen, out dated cpu, decent graphics card though...i dont see how thats worth 700 but whatever it works i guess
well can you help me find some good parts? id need it to be about the same price, or cheaper if possible. my price ceiling is about 1000
alienware= overpriced bullshit. its what a kid thinks is the best computer when they know nothing. build your own. You can build a beast for a grand.
I'd say check out Newegg. Look at Asus motherboards, Nvidia graphics cards (preferably with 2+ gigs of video memory and lots of power) , Intel CPUs(i5 quad core at least 3GHz), a cooling system, 1600mhz ram (you'll want at minimum 4 gigs, but you can definitely afford more, try for 8+ gigs), a hard drive (try for 7200rpm, 6gbps transfer, at least 1TB in size), disk drives, media readers, a power supply (Newegg has a tool to see how much wattage you'll need, give yourself some breathing room in case you want to upgrade. Modular power supplies are the best), a case which fits your motherboards form factor and gives your graphics card room, a monitor, keyboard and mouse, speakers... Also, pay attention to overall product ratings when picking parts. Cue someone with more experience than me with a list of parts.....
Another definite vote for build your own. It's not complicated and the individual parts will come with warrantys... I reccomend getting an i5 3570k processor, complatible mobo, 8gb drr3 ram and an SSD drive. the other parts there's a lot to choose from.
well can you help me find some good parts? id need it to be about the same price, or cheaper if possible. my price ceiling is about 1000
$1,000 ceiling? damn you can build a ballin' comp for $700 and under if you shop right. im jelly
Also if your not confident with building your own, check out actual computer sites for pre built ones. I know I'm gona get some hate but saying that but he may want to just get a pre built. Check out newegg, ncix, memory express for some decent pre builts. If you do feel like building your own (which I do also suggest, as will everyone else) those sites also have awesome components along with great prices and reviews.
Building your own is no more complicated than assembling Legos'. The trick is getting parts that work well together with a bit of overhead for reliability, and give the best performance for the buck. As a minimum in this day and age, -i5 or AMD fx6100 CPU -any Motherboard that support your CPU choice and USB3 -8Gb of 1600mhz DDR3 RAM -128Gb SSD disk (for OS and often used apps/games) -500Gb HD (for storage of media and stuff) -700W PSU -nVidia 570gtx or equivalent AMD alternative graphics card -some case with good ventilation, preferably at least one 12cm fan in front and back (more quiet), or two 8cm fans in front and one back (more noise). All in all, perhaps 600-700USD, and much better than the overpriced Alienware offering.
Dude.... Tell your mum to go bust a nut some where else. You want to build your computer! Understand? Build it! Fuck Best Buys homo warranty! Some hardware manufactures offer lifetime warranty! Kom EDIT: That build is good for 2 years max before you need to upgrade. Build a PC!
You should get at least i5, i3 isn't really good enough. You'll also need to upgrade the graphics card, it will definitely max out on medium spec games.
Sorry but you are wrong.... i3 can play almost any game you throw at it with a good enough graphics card. I have one of these in a build with a low end graphics card: Newegg.com - Intel Pentium G850 Sandy Bridge 2.9GHz LGA 1155 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2000 BX80623G850 And i can play most of my favorite games no problem at high/medium settings. Obviously you dont get super high FPS and the best game play, but its a 80$ CPU lol For just games, i3 is good to go, but i5 is much better in long run. And the fact that i3 is like half the price of an i5. Also there are i3, i5 and i7 for each CPU type so its easy to get a i5 or i7 later on and sell your old CPU on ebay or whatever you want...

All rig parts have warrantys so it's the same and their interchangeable so your not stuck paying for overpriced dell or hp parts or whatever

I have a 3.00ghz dual core with a 6950. I can play all the games on highest settings without any lagg.
I sincerely doubt that.
Battlefield 3 and Skyrim on highest settings. Don't see what I would get out of lying about it lol
