Good Apple Pie recipe anyone?

Discussion in 'General' started by Dank Diva, Nov 18, 2008.

  1. My fiance and some friends will be going hunting over the weekend, and he asked if I would bake them an apple pie to take with them up north. I've only made a handful of pies before, but the apple ones NEVER turned out right. They were always too runny, and didn't hold shape after coming out of the oven. I've followed many recipes to the T, (using some I found on allrecipes.com) but something always turns out wrong. I figured someone here, or maybe your girlfriend/wife/mom/sister knows how to cook a spectatular pie.

Any help/links/recipes would be greatly appreciated.

  2. it might be the apple you are using.. Some have more water content than the others.
I have a killer recipe in my office i'll post it up for you later on. (my office is in a restaurant so it's not as odd as it sounds).

but use Mcintosh or Granny Smith.. they don't release as much water when baked as some of the others.

  3. I agree that Macintosh apples work best.

I don't have a specific recipe, but if it doesn't gross you out, using lard instead of crisco makes the best pie crust ever.
