Going to try to move on from pro mix to coco....

Discussion in 'Coco Coir' started by Corydensebuds, Nov 21, 2018.

  1. so I’m looking to move on from pro mix to coco. I’ve heard nothing but great things. From growth, rate of growth, ease of nutrient deficiency etc. a little high maintenance coming from PM as far as watering goes. But worth it in my opinion.

I use nectar for the gods nutes. Will this be fine with coco? Any and all advice, tips are greatly appreciated.

    Your brand of coco
    Brand of nutes
    Feeding schedules
    PPM

Again, all info is greatly appreciated

  2. Royal Gold Tupur

    Masterblend 4-18-38
    Protekt
    Flower Fuel
    Drip Clean

    Fed twice a day.

    About 500 ppm.

  3. Very sexy lady you have there. Also, thanks for the info. Clearly the system works for you lol.

  4. On my second grow...

    Royal Gold coco with perlite
    2 gallon pots
    Advanced Nutrients Coco lineup
Drain to waste, 3 feedings/day, 20 gallon res
    600 ppm

The Advanced nutrients lineup is a ph perfect. Using 3/4 strength keeps my ppm lower and the ph stays stable for a week.

Tip to offer would be to monitor your ph and ppm of your runoff till you get it dialed in. That way you can adjust whats goin in if an issues develops.

    Cheers!

  5. Drain to waste is a bit complex for me. Atleast yet. But definitely useful information if I ever have the confidence to go that route. Thank you

  6. Drain to waste is just watering/ feeding until there is 20% runoff everytime.

The runoff is poured out, waste

  7. I hand water. My buddy has a drain to waste system. Which is on timers, rings etc. so I thought that’s what you meant. Too much shit to go wrong for ME anyway lol

  8. You still ph and feed the same, you’re just doing it by hand. It’s a great method

  9. You'll be looking at timers, rings and a way to automate it after a few more weeks of hand watering! It gets old real quick.

Right now i'm handwatering 2 small plants that use way less water than the rest in my room. That got old last week.

The only thing that can go wrong really with my watering system is if the timer doesn't click on. Other than that, i just check my ph and ppm everyother day and fill the resivior once a week and add fresh nutes.

I still check my grow a couple times a day to see that everything is ok, but watering is not on my chore list. I try to make sure i'm in the room at least once every couple feedings to see that all the plants are getting fed and its running properly.

I wish i had the time and space to hand water daily. I spend the extra time i'd spend watering, primping, training, and looking over the ladies.

  10. Why the switch? I luvs me my ProMix and I am not around or willing to water everyday much less multiplle times a day. While I get the HP every once in a whie I get by with the BBS cheap ass ProMix. $13.97 for compressed 2.0 cu. ft, which is enough for a 6 plant grow. (I do augment with additional perlite/clay). In almost 5 years, PH was only a problem for me once and I knew I had a batch of peat peat that was old old...and some additional dolomite lime fixed that for me.
    Regardless...just wondering why?

  11. Tbh I’m in tents at the moment. 5x10 2000watt flower and 4x4 1000 watt for veg. I’m on my second grow from clone. First run ended on day 45 of flower due to a big PM issue. My ventilation was all wrong. But now I have that worked out. Things are going great. Temp and humidity are perfect or close to it at all times. Once I clear the space in the basement I plan on flowering in a sealed room 15x8. I don’t have space for res, pumps etc. on top of that I have to upgrade my electrical down stairs to withstand all the lights etc. and believe me hand watering has definitely gotten old lol. It’s water time today actually and it’s a chore for sure

  12. Promix works well for me actually. I’ve never had any big issues. But with coco you decide when and what to feed. Which in return you have better control of your grow. And naturally just a bigger plant, faster. From what I’ve seen anyway. Just trying something new. And if I can get an added advantage, I’m all for it.

  13. Not sure I follow...Promix is basically inert also...except for some sparse nutrients added that will get you by for a week or two...so you have the same advantage of being in charge of when and how much to feed.

Edit: unless you are not talking Promix Peat ...as I know they make other products.

  14. Nice plants! Lookin good

here's what I did for a simple system in a 5x5 room. give you some ideas for once you change rooms/setups

20 gallon res is bout 30" high, 16 inches across.
190gph pump sitting in the water on the bottom connected to a timer set to run 3x a day for a min each
pump is connected to 1/2 line leading to 1/4 lines to each pot.
runs about 750ml to each pot each feeding.

    done!

    cheers

  15. I use the promix hpcc which is peat/coir based. But seems to have not that great of drainage. But then again I haven’t added amy extra perilite etc. and it holds its moisture for quite a while. I thought the same thing. But straight coco is different. In my opinion anyway and from what I’ve seen. Maybe because of the peat? Idk

  16. Nice set up. And nice plants. I do have a question though. I see a lot of people who use smaller pots with coco. Is that ok? Or is that due to planning not vegging long before flipping?

  17. That’s your hydro benefits. Feeding 2-3 times daily provides fresh oxygen and nutes to the roots causing explosive growth. Second in growth only to DWC and even that’s debateable until the roots fill the reservoir

These were all in one gallon pots intentionally rootbound and fed 2-3 times daily

You can see my drip manifold here in this pic. I drain on a sloped table with corrugated steel roofing pitches into a gutter that is emptied by a shop vac 10 minutes after each feed. These are just a few clones in soil and one 3.5 qt Perlite Hempy experiment with H&G full line

  18. So what you’re saying is. You can use smaller pot due to the fact the root zone gets fed more. And more oxygen is allowed to the root zone? I’m just trying to understand how it works. Because coco is pretty much hydroponic. Which I’ve never done. Due to the fact of the up keep. Res. Water temp. Ppm. Ph being stable etc. but I can treat coco like soil due to the fact it’s my medium. But feed it like hydro which is perfect if that’s the case.

So being in such small pots you don’t run into stunted growth?

  19. Very nice buds by the way. Thick and frosty

  20. Quite the opposite. I get accelerated growth because of all the fresh oxygen and nutes.

You can hand water 2 times daily and still get similar results. I’ve automated my room so I can leave during a grow.
