  1. in the next few months i will be living on my own and attending college.. i will be moving into an apt and will have to pay 350 a month for insurance.. do you think i can make it with a high school education and living on my own?

  2. Yep, easily. Just cut back on a few expenses and pick up plenty of shifts, and its possible. :)

I'm in the process of funding all things for myself, as well. Its easy when you know what to cut back on.

  3. Are you going from high school straight to an appartment?

  4. yeah me and my girlfriend are getting an apartment after the summer is over..ill be going to college

  5. With the cost of dorm rooms these days, it's not a bad idea to split rent on an apartment.

You should be fine if both you and your girlfriend have a job.

  6. Good luck man. It's hard to get yourself through school alone.

I'm lucky, my Dad set up college stocks and bonds when I was born. My girlfriend's (who I live with) Dad is loaded from working overseas for the past 10 years (although her Mom is still working class, and she grew up in her house).

I think I'm in a certain stage of yuppieness. I'm the stage right before the yuppie. My Dad had to work his way through college (he worked on oil rigs, roughneckin). Because of his work ethic, I was working as soon as I could. I bet if I have kids, they'll be total brats. Thus is the cycle.

  7. anti-hero, there's no way my kids'll be brats, no matter how loaded I am. My best friend growing up has more money than he could spend, and he grew up to be the biggest douche i know. I seriously hate that guy, and he was my best friend in the world not 10 years ago. There was no falling out, I grew up, he grew into douche, because everything's always been handed to him his entire life, so he thinks he's hot shit. But as soon as he got on his own, he started fuckin up, and now you can't carry on a conversation with the kid without wanting to hit him. so my kids will have nice things, but they'll work for them, and know to be both grateful and generous.

Pops, yeah, you can make it. It's gonna definitely be rough that first semester while you're trying to find that balance between work/school, cause it's different in college, and you'll probably be eating a lot of ramen noodles/one meal a day until you work your budget out properly, but yeah man, it can definitely be done. See if you can't save up at least a month, preferably 2 months worth of rent before you move in, since it can be tough finding jobs in college towns.

  8. My only advice: don't go grocery shopping when your hungry or high.

  9. Great advice. Did that once when I was trying to work my way through college. Girlfriend and I got baked and hit the grocery store.
We were eating hostess for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the next week.

  10. Yeah living on your own isn't that hard. Good way to cut costs is smoke for free. Buy a half, sell three eigths to freinds, and that should cover your smoke.

  11. i dont smoke anymore.

  12. hahahahah i ndeed

  13. anymore advice?

  14. watch out for bears.
