These are some of the reasons why I personally there can be no god. Forgive me if i get carried away, but this subject really gets me going. These are listed in no particular order: 1. The Hollocost - There is no way that any loving xtian god could ever allow for such a disaster, or any other disaster for that matter, to befall mankind. 2. The Bible, Koran, Torah, etc. - There can't be any "true word of god" because it is eventually written, read, and interpreted by humans. 3. The Diversity of Religions - It never ceases to amaze me how so many people are convinced that their religion is THE religion. Of course, they cannot all be correct. Is only one right? Are none of them? 4. The Hypocrocy of Faith - Never before in the history of earth has more blood been shed than over the topic of religion. (The Crusades, The Hollocost, Jihad....anyone?) 5. The Human Mind - Humans have the most advanced brains on this planet. We do not know, nor do I believe, will we ever know the complete capabilities of what our noggins can do. If our brains have the capacity to convince us under the influence of drugs or severe conditions that unreal things are happening, then I have a hard time believing that any sort of "DIVINE INTERVENTION" is not just a mind trip. 6. We Want to Believe - I believe (notice, this is my "belief"), I believe that all beliefs are based on a series of coincidental events, human assumptions, and fear. To me, "A myth is a religion in which no one any longer believes." <DD class=author> -----James Feibleman</DD> People just create something to understand a greater force that they cannot explain scientifically or logically. Because of fear, they give in and create a "one size fits all" to solve their problems so that they can continue to be ignorant to an obvious world. (Corn God, anyone?) 7. Free Will - Even if there were a god, the notion of free will does not exist. If there were a god, he or she or it would know what our choices would be before even occuring. What's the point of free will? Also, and quote me on this one, "If god helps those who help themselves, then where is need for god?" 8. The Problem of Infinity - It goes forever...not ever stopping...ever. How can there NOT be other earths?...worlds?...universes?...possibilities? It's mind-boggling. 9. Even if... - Even if there were a god, he could change everything there ever was at anytime no matter what. So why am I wasting my time.........? I don't know. 10. Because I Said So - If I'm wrong about my athiest beliefs, that would mean that everything that I've ever known was wrong and that I'd be forced to change or suffer. I'm too sure that I'm right, and I'm too scared to think that I'm wrong. ...But what if? (This is a great website for quotes. counter argument to holocaust example: GOD (whatever that is) has given humans freedom. It is not god that created holocaust, it is man, hint as long as humanity doesn't recognize that all hell on earth is due to humans decisions humanity will keep on killing itself, Earth, et Al . ----------------- of course there is a god. may it be the "what science cannot explain" may it be the "order behind the chaos" may it be the "one or thing or whatever that created what /is/" may it be the "one unique thing that we truely know exists for sure" you subjectively choose /not call it a god/ but there is something you believe in wholeheartly that has no other explanation then the fact you sincerly believ in it. that could be called your god. there is. if it's not something different then our personal perspectiv on reality, then We individualy within our perspective are god.

I believe in 'god' but not the christian god as in one all powerful being. I do believe there is a spiritual side to things but i am not religious. You're right thought, there can't be any true word of God written in a book, thats why I am not a christian, etc... Maybe each religion has its own truth in them, and what if we stopped looking at religions individually and started looking as religion as a whole? Blood has been shed over religion, but isn't all blood shed due to beliefs? I agree with the next point, most people believe in something that they haven't seen because they are scared that there is nothing, just like me. Again, I'm not a christian. Heh, well there ARE so many possibilities, thats what is soo intresting about life. Ummm, good point. I believe that 'god' isn't one all powerful being though, thats just my view. Yes, if you compare it to one specific religion.
i kinda believe what someone said earlier...religion does seem to be for the weak. but BELIEFS are not religion. what i really really have a problem with is organized religions i guess. my friend told me one day that he didn't think that i was athiest...more of a deist. he said deists believe that there was some higher power, call it god, call it whatever, and this power created the cosmos and then just left. i don't necessarily have any backing to that, but it kind of makes sense to me. i know that we're never going to figure everything out and i guess i'm kind of jealous of those who can just BELIEVE and take those leaps of faith. maybe i'm not that strong-willed, or maybe i'm not that stupid. i don't really think i have any place to say what's right and wrong for others...just for me. hopefully, i'll find my god in some thing. even if it's just my love for mankind. i'll figure it out. thanks for the responses.
instead of "the weak" maybe it's wiser to say that they don't "have the time to invent a religion of their own" ...
maybe that's so. maybe they just aren't creative enough to formulate their own ideas, maybe they were never a good leader and couldn't get their ideas off of the ground, or maybe all of the good ideas have been taken. sometimes i feel like the christian religions are the perfect religions for people who just want to join a party. it's kind of wierd...i'm kind of jealous because it seems like christians got all of the best ideas...like the cross? that's got to be the easiest symbol to make...two sticks, two fingers...it can be made out of anything. also, they got to the "power of three" first. like, isn't it amazing how humans are so obsessed with the number three? i.e. the trinity, three legs of government, third time's a charm, three parts to a joke, three levels...and then you fight the boss, threesomes?...i could go on forever. we love the number three. wierd.
I believe in a supreme being, a force that is around us. To people who believe in science, or do not believe in any type of god, answer me this. There is evedence of evolution. Animals evolving to adapt and so forth. Well, how did the first organism originate? There has to be life to give life. There are just too many things science can not explain for me to totally count a supreme being out. I mean, who created canibus!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
i couldn't tell you how life started, or who started it...i wasn't there when it happened. but that whole "there has to be life to give life" is a lot like what came first, the chicken or the egg? i'm not sure. all i do know is that there are literally an infinite amount of possibilities and i really don't exclude any ideas from being truth.

God is good. When the day of judgement comes for all men, the righteous will be saved. All men sin, however God loves and forgives all men equally. Repent and your soul will be saved by God from the depths of hell when you die. Eternal damnation or eternal life, the choice is yours and yours alone. God is great, yet he is to be feared, and the teachings which he gave to mankind through human prophets should be cherished and followed. Amen

The thing thats great about God is he will never turn his back on anyone, even though they may turn their backs on him.
1. God did not create the holocausts, mankind did. God is aware of all the evil and sin that mankind has experienced throughout history. God works in subtle ways, however he does not appear because it is not his place to. If he appeared, everyone would say yes we believe because we saw him, but that is not the way faith is meant to be. The man who has faith and repents for the evils and sins he has commited will EARN a place in heaven. A place in heaven must be earned, therefore God will not appear and force people to believe. There are no "free rides" 2. Religous texts such as the Bible and Koran are written by human prophets who lived long ago during the days of early civilization. These prophets were normal people who recieved signs from God telling them what to do or what to write or what to communicate to other people. Reading these documents would be a step in the right direction for you. 3. People are not perfect and will say things that aren't always true. Whenever someone says that their religion is the only true religion they simply do not know what they are talking about. I respectfully disagree with, and forgive anyone who says their religion is the only true religion. However if you take a look at the major religions in the world today - Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, they all recognize each other as worshiping the same God. In fact Judaism and Christianity share the old testament. Islam recognizes the prophets of Christianity and Judaism such as Jesus Christ, yet they follow a religious text called the Koran which was written by Muhammed, a prophet of God who lived after Jesus' time. 4. All men are hypocrites and sinners, no man is perfect. The sins of men should not shake your faith in God. 5. Humans are a relatively primitive species in the universe. If you believe that aliens have ever visited this earth in spacecraft, look at it from their point of view. We live on a an underdeveloped jungle planet. We constantly pollute the earth, constantly engage in "tribal" warfare and crimes amongst ourselves, and we are basically incapable of space travel. In the meantime these aliens who are obsiously much smarter then us have somehow created crafts that can travel hundreds of lightyears in a relatively short time. Human technology pales in comparison to that. The human mind is capable of alot, but it is inferior in terms of the universe. 6. There is nothing wrong with believing in God or having faith. Ignorance is something totally different. In fact in my opinion i believe it is ignorant to bash others for their beliefs, because usually the "bashers" cant understand what someone is saying, or they dont even want to think they have been living in sin and they dont want to acknowledge that something greater exists than themselves. That is truly ignorance. 7. Free Will does exist. Free will is the choice everyone has between doing what is right and doing what is wrong. God helps those who believe in him, ask repetence for their sins, live a good life in his eyes, and acknowledge that he is the supreme ruler and creator of all there is. 8. Again, the relatively inferior human mind cannot comprehend such topics. Let me tell you this, it would be statistically impossible for their not to be life anywhere else in the universe. People who claim that life only exists on earth are either ignorant or they are lying. The answers to all these questions have been attempted to be explained by me, These are answers that I could come up with based on my own knowledge. The best advice i could possibly give you would be to read the bible and possibly other texts. All the answers you seek will be found there.
But tooript, how can you be so positive? How are you sure that there is a god, is it not possible that man made up the idea of 'god' and that none ever existed?
to me the beauty of nature, the taste of an apple, the feeling of love is all proof of god. You cant go into the mountains around here and deny a greater power. Its here, in front of us everywhere so evident its SCREAMING! maybe god isnt "god" as we know it, maybe the earth is god, we can never know, and thats what makes it different to all of us. Look how far we've come, to get absolutely nowhere. To me the truth is within animals and children, the truly pure. How can we say people who seek religion are weak? We are all weak! we smoke pot so we can feel more happy, is the unhappiness not weakness? we are all weak. but together we are strong as we would ever need to be.
I really don't want to go too far into detail with this matter because after reading many philosphy books and books on quantum physics and the theory of relativity, I have realized that there is really no need for there to be this one being known as God. Basically, Einstein's Theory of Relativity (with equation known as e=mc^2) sums up and proves that the universe is an infinite loop, and every aspect of the universe known to man follows this infinite loop. All dimensions are included and so is the 4th dimension of time which is contained in a paralell universe to the universe that we live in. So along with this infinite loop comes an idea that perople don't really relate to God very often. If there is no beginning and no end to time, then how did God create the universe. "Time" is just the way that humans measure out daily lives on a small scale, but when looking at things on a larger scale we can realize through Einsteins Theory of Relativity (http://www.bartleby.com/173/) that time is just a loop of infinite occurances (very hard to word). Take this example into consideration.... The most scientifically based theory of the origin of the universe is the "Big Bang Theory". This states that all matter in the universe was created from an infinitely dense particle that exploded due to some form of atomic energy, creating a forever expanding universe. If this theory is in fact true, than how did that dense particle come to exist in the first place? The theory that "time" is not really a straight line of occurances, but instead an infinite loop of occurances explains that there never was a beginning to the universe, rendering the "Big Bang Theory" obsolete.
