im completely new to this and used miracle grow because i was using the cannabis grow bible as a guide and the miracle grow had a good NPK ratio and the book also said nothing against it. i feel like a dumbass now but there isnt shit i can do about it. i have been having a gnat issue and just realized that they actually came from the bag of soil. ive tried a gnat trap that i saw online and no luck. the larvae are everywhere in the soil. id really not like to give this up but i am only a month into the process. please help. BTW i have been training the plants with lst, i have no way to check ph, using one growlux bulb and thirty white leds. thats it. if you can help it would be very much appreciated.
Gnats are a pain in the ass, but they won't kill your plant. If you can transplant it into better soil you will be sitting in a better position. What does the plant itself actually look like?
i actually have 3 plants they arent looking too bad. im away from them at the moment but when i get near them i can post pictures
Gnats will dramatically decrease your yield and can cause hermies. IT's the larva not the gnats that do the damage. they will eat clear through the top 3'' of roots in your soil. Damn I hate those Mo fo's. I recommend you look at the thread natural insecticides and fungicides on the organics section.. first and last page. As good as it gets.
plus it's not the MG that's your gnat problem. MG is a cause of many other problems but the gnats are somehin else.
as per skunk patronus's suggestin i think he's right, if you are confident your plants are VERY root bound I would wash the roots off until there's nothing of the MG left on the root ball. Then plant into some fine EWC/perlite and top dress with 2 cups of ewc, water in gently, but only do this if you are very well rooted because a fragile root system will not endure the stress of having the dirt removed.
I was not thinking of the larva, just a couple of buzzing gnats, I put a layer of sand on my soil, I think it just keeps them from laying the eggs where they need to be, no larva born, and they can't finish their life cycle thing and everybody dies out in a week or so. When you are done repotting into something decent you put a half inch of clean washed sand (nurseries sell it) on top and your done.

yes the larva are being a pain in the ass. actually the larva did come from the mg, i know it sounds weird but it was an old bag of soil. i dont have the money to switch soil at the moment but i will look into it. "EWC/perlite"- what is this and is it the name i would look up for prices?
