Glowing Scorpions In My Fish Tank

Discussion in 'Pets' started by yurigadaisukida, Jun 7, 2013.

  1. I had an interesting idea I want to try.

I'm planning on setting up some glow fish and plants in my fish tank. It just has goldfish right now.

But I decided while I'm at it, why not put a jar of pet scorpions sealed in the fish tank. They glow under blacklight. I can just take the jar out, feed the scorpions, and put it back.

So ill have a glowing Forrest with glowing fish and a jar of glowing scorpions.

Ill post pics if I'm succesfful.

Anyone ever try this or seen it done?

  2. Haven't seen it done, but i sounds like a great idea and a good conversation piece. :smoke:

  3. Correct me if I'm wrong but scorpions need oxygen to survive?

I have seen aquariums that are divided into two sections by a pane of glass. One had saltwater fish in the front half and freshwater fish in the back! You might try something like that with a dry and a wet section.

  5. Will the scorpions have enough air between feedings? Sounds cool I didn't know glowing scorpions were a thing..

  6. Oxygen... Shmkoygen...No one uses oxygen anymore. Pffttt....oxygen.....

  7. They will be in a sealed jar. I can.easily remove and open the jar to.feed them

Yea I don't know if they will survive. its and experiment :)

I'm actually not concerned with air or.food. I'm more concerned with greenhouse effect since my tank.is outside. Will the water be enough to keep a sealed jar.cool?

As for the glowing part. Yes scorpions glow under black lights.

Do not keep them under UV for longer than a minute or two.

It's very stressful to scorpions of all kinds.  It also can blind them.  While it's true that scorpions cannot really see images, they need those eyes to know the difference between day or night.

My wind scorpions do not tolerate UV at all.  I tried to get a shot of my larger eremobates sp glowing, and the instant the UV went on her, she freaked out and ran like a madman, crashing into the walls of the container.

  12. depending on the species, you will have different housing requirements.

before you house the scorpion, show a clear photo and i will tell you what you need.

if you catch a desert hairy, you will need a 12 inch layer of substrate, as those are burrowers.

in addition to this, they require a mixture of sand, silt, and clay (just a little clay) mix well and add enough water to make the substrate evenly moist.

after that, you will need to tamp the soil down very firm, tamp it in 1" layers, this will ensure stability.

after that, let the tank air out for 24 hours.

    THEN add the scorpion.

if the scorpion is a bark scorpion, use a coconut fiber substrate, lightly moistened, and pro

sorry to dp, phone wont let me scroll down..

provide bark scorpions with hides. centruroides are communal, you can put tons of them together and not have problems.

your idea will not work. the air inside the jar will cause it to float. in addition to that, the housing for the scorpion will not be adequate for its survival.

just get another tank and use it for a scorpion.

they arent insects, they get stressed and wont eat while stressed.

  14. I already know the species. Its an Arizona bark scorpion.

What should I feed it? I got wingless fruit flies last time I had them. They didn't go for them
And I have palm trees so that's perfect.

Sorry I didn't read this before setting it up LOL.

But the project was a success.

    Here is a pic
