glass shielded relfectors?

  1. obviously they do wonders for the heat...........but does the glass cut down on light penetration or anything? if one has a 250hps would the glass cut down too much light?

  2. Yes a little bit, but it does blocks out all uvb, unless your glass is made of quartz. But no one makes air cooled reflectors with quartz glass.

You get the advantage of putting the light closer to the plants though, which means your plants won't be missing out on any lumens, they'll get more.

  3. They do wonder for the heat if you air-cool the light. If you use a light with a sealed glass plate and don't ventilate it then you are trapping the light and could burn out your bulb.

But yes, assuming you air-cool (which is the only real reason to use a sealed glass plate) then you do cut down a bit on the light but more than make up for it by being able to get the light much closer.
