Glass on Glass oil tip.

  1. Hey GC,

For my 600th post here I thought I would share some information more publicly then just sharing it in my previous post.

I was at one of my local head shops last week sometime and I spent enough time in there to exchange names with 'Big Bear' (other then this nickname I knew him by) with each other and had a few good conversations. Both of which I have never experienced at this particular shop, which was cool. I talked about my interest to open up a head shop in my future with a friend and he gave me some advice, tips, hints and ideas that he had. But the best piece of info he could give me was to oil up your bong when you use it :D

I told him how I broke my first bong trying to get a stuck-down stem out of the spout as I was looking at his selection for a new one. This goes for all glass on glass connections, either size, any connection.

Where the glass meets the glass of the other piece rub your favourite type of oil. Rub some around the male and female parts where the glass connects and then connect them. Spin the glass around a bit and there you have it. A non stick glass connection that is easily fixed by taking a cloth and wiping it out and then applying it again.

This has saved me so far, and I am also using a keck clip that was on the bong I bought. I don't know if the keck clip has any benefit to not having the down stem stick at all, but it sure does a great job at keeping the stem down =D

So, there is my tip for the occasion.

I hope this helps people out.

    Dayton :smoke:

P.S. When I say oil I do mean veg, hemp, canola and so on. Motor oil might not be the best. Just saying :p

  2. Or water-based lubricant:wave:?

  3. It does work to seal glass on glass joints better but they are practically perfectly airtight already and using the stuff on your joints would by my guess contaminate the water and that just doesn't sit right with me. I don't want no oily shit in my bong. Totally unnecessary too! Not sure why your glass on glass would need this.

  4. Righty tighty , lefty loosey ... it applies to Glass on glass to....

  5. I use beeswax, it will last the longest on your joints.

  6. Jizz...

  7. Read my original post dude...

I do not talk about achieving the already air tight seal [yes I do agree the glass on glass components makes for an air tight seal].
I have gotten a down stem stuck, and the use of oil prevents it.
I'm not loading my bong up with oil; I simply dab the joints with enough to circulate the area that touches other glass. I have lemon juice in my bong water as I hear it keeps it cleaner. Thought I would try that out.
Why do I choose to apply oil to my joints? it stops the stems from getting stuck!

Not always. And don't think because you have not had a down stem as stuck as I have, that it is not impossible. It is.

    Sweet, thanks for the input.
I'ma use oil cause I have a bung of it in my house, and will have a container next to my bong pretty soon with some in it.
    :D

  8. or clean your pieces more then once a week.

I just soak mine in hot water and it works fine.

    not boiling just hot.

  9. One, not everyone is like this.
Two, not everyone has a sink big enough to soak a bong.

    It's just a tip.

  10. bathtub?

    5 gallon bucket?

    bowl of hot water?

and i find people that dont clean there bongs alot usually dont have High end glass.

  11. If you clean your pieces weekly from the outset they'll be a breeze to keep under perfect maintenance. You run into issues with difficult grime when you go a month+ without cleaning.

I don't have a bath tub or a clean enough pale to use. Bowls are too small.
The bong I have now, when I clean it I have to use a glass to pour water into it lol..

I actually clean my bong more then once a week actually.
The bong I have now is more expensive then the last and it is on the higher end. I have never left a bong more then a few days to clean, yet sometimes they just get stuck.

The reason it got stuck [really badly] was because before it had gotten stuck and I tried to lever it out using a flat head screwdriver. Broke off the side of it and when I put my bowl into the down stem to twist it out, it didn't have enough glass to make enough friction to turn it out. Tried MANY different ways to get it out and nothing would work at all.

So I lather them in oil now and the are amazingly stick free.

  13. keck clip after i got one never had joint lock dont smoke much more becuse of the mflb

  14. jesus christ doods! give this guy some cred!!!! all i hear is bitching. Well thank you OP for this sweet tip that ive never heard about. Seems real practical. If you ever have ever bein gongin for an extended period of time you would know that sometimes your dowstem does get stuck even if its spotless.

++rep homeboy and lets keep the vibes positive:bongin::bongin::bongin::gc_rocks: here on GC
