Giving weed another try, but this time, im eating it.

  1. Hey guys,
     
    So, I started smoking weed at around 16-17 years old when I started dating this girl in my class. I was never one of the "cool" kids that experimented or had the balls to be rebellious in that way, but she and her entourage were, so obviously I got sucked in.
     
    From what I can remember, at first the experience was great and I felt no anxiety whatsoever. I started smoking every once in a while socially, but never bothered to buy it for myself. Anyway, some time later, things went south and the relationship ended. I got depressed, went full on "rebellious" and started doing hard drugs and skipping school. You know, the whole deal. 
     
    I didn't do hard drugs for long, but I still kept smoking regularly, like, every other day. It slowly grew into daily use, and I would buy local weed never really caring about quality or strain. I just wanted to self medicate. 
     
    Every time I smoked, I got ultra self-conscious and negative. It just got to the point where I would just smell the weed and get anxious, but still, I would smoke it every day. 
     
    So, one day I said f*** it and quit smoking. It's now been around 3-4 years without any THC in my system. Yet, I still have constant depression and anxiety, so much so that it's debilitating. I tried medication prescribed by my doctor, but none of it helps and actually makes me feel worse sometimes. 
     
    So now, i'm thinking of giving weed another try, but with edibles instead of smoking. I'm not sure how different the effects will be vs smoking in regards to anxiety, so i'll just have to see. 
     
    What i'd like to know, is if strains truly make a difference in the way it affects the brain. Could some strains make me feel anxious and negative and others not? Or are the differences between strains not all that different in that regard? Does anyone have any experience with this?
     
    I know cannabis is helping many people with depression and anxiety, and even though smoking helped make things worse in my head, maybe if used more carefully, it could potentially suppress them as well. I'm just looking for some input.

  2. I would go with an indica. Sativas will give you a head high which could trigger anxiety.
     
  3. I would look for a hybrid. Sativas will exacerbate your anxiety but help with depression, and indicas will suppress your anxiety.
     
    On another note, do not eat a lot. Have a completely empty stomach (don't eat for 4 or 5 hours) then eat like 0.25-0.50 grams. Eating it can be way more intense. And it can take up to 90 minutes to kick in. So don't eat it and then eat again 45 minutes later because you don't feel anything. Eating too much can be overwhelming and lasts a lot longer especially if you haven't smoked in 3 or 4 years. So if you are not enjoying it or having a bad trip, it will last like 5 hours from eating it as opposed to 2 hours from smoking.
     
    Personally I would just smoke it the first few times to get used to the feeling again.
     
  4. If you haven't been high in 3-4 years I would personally reccomend you start with like a half a joint. I think edibles
    Are for more experienced smokers because it lasts longer and can be more intense.

  5. i get like that too sometimes when i smoke. i find i only really feel shitty when im smoking on my own, if im havin a few beers and smokin with some mates i never get it

    Thanks guys! I'll def consider giving a small needle a toke before edibles. I've never had edibles before, so in my mind, i'm thinking maybe the body high will suit me better than the instant mental high, based on my smoking experiences. I'll have to experiment down the road, but i'll take it really slow and easy.
     
  7. For sure. Like I said, when you do try eating it, just do a very small amount on a completely empty stomach. Even when I was smoking a lot every day, if I ate really strong edibles, I would get anxiety sometimes. Just take it slow with the edibles, it is not the same as smoking.
     
  8. Sounds like THC causes your anxiety. I'm the same way. I become very self conscious, depressed, very quiet and get anxiety.

    Sativa is the worst. Indica is slightly a bit better but all these feelings are still there. Edibles and vaping doesn't help either.

    The only way, at least for me is to eliminate the THC and smoke CBD rich strains like Harlequin and Charlottes Web.

    Yes! I've been meaning to try and find high CBD product in my area, but no one carries it since it's not really appealing to most recreational smokers. I will keep looking though. I'm bound to get access to high CBD strains at some point. 
     
  11. sorry to go off track but have you smoked Charlottes web? Id love to know what that was like considering the near zero THC. I live in England so no chance of trying it lucky to get a specific straim everythings labelled "cheese" or "haze" lol
     
  12. I haven't personally and I know you were asking omega. But I believe that it is like you don't get high at all, but you get the medical effects like pain relief.

  13. but id be interested as to whether you get a body high you know? And what about munchies? Interested to see whats caused by THC and whats caused by CBD
