giving blood for surgery

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by Matricide, Dec 26, 2012.

  1. Hey guys, I learned this past week that I have to get spinal surgery for scoliosis in January.
\tThe doctor told me I need to donate 2 pints of blood to give back to myself to account for lost blood during the surgery.

I'd like to know before giving a pint of blood is it safe to smoke my precious herb? I'm only worried about lower blood pressure and just general anxiety/paranoia. And I don't care about it showing up in their system cause its going right back to me. What do you guys think?

  2. It is. I'm a blood donor and it does not make a lick of difference. It would be best to wait though.

  3. if i were you id stop three days before i go to donate the blood. If you still want to smoke i dont think its a problem though, aside from the anxiety of being pricked by a needle

  4. I would advise against smoking before you have blood drawn or the surgery as you don't know just what meds you will be getting and if/how they will interact with the Cannabis in your blood.

Of course if you're not worried about Cannabis showing up in your blood, ask the Doc.
