I really can't do this site justice. All I can say is that if you like nature, like bugs, like going 'wow'! Go here: Nature - The world's ants captured in 3D MelT
I love insects, and this is really awesome, but to try to capture each species of ant is silly. Many ants are indistinguishable from visual inspection. The only way to tell them apart is to pull out and then inspect the shape of their aedeagus (penis). I got a chance to see a leafcutter ant colony in plexiglass display. They had different chambers set up and the ants would use one for breeding, another for fungus farming(!) and others for dumping garbage. It was so cool. I could watch those buggers all day. The queen was giant!
When I was in Costa Rica, I would occasionally see a moving line of leafs across a path. Some of those leaf sections were way bigger than the ants, which was pretty awesome to see.
impressive images! i was hoping to see the Siafu, the worlds largest ant but alas, 20,000 species to go
then you notice that you're sliding across the bed because they picked you up to take you home.... for dinner!
