Getting set up for my first grow in 10 years.

  1. Hi everyone. I used to be an avid member here about ten years ago. Got away from growing for awhile and forgot my old info so I hate to create a new profile. Anyway,

Since it’s been so long and things have changed so much I have a few questions.

    1. I’m going led which I’ve never done before. My grow room is going to be a 4x4x6 tall. What wattage light should I use?
    2. I plan to grow multiple strains. How many plants can I max out at in that area? I plan to try and keep things compact as possible.
    3. Is the Amazon grow room tent kits worth it? Should I build custom?

I’ve chosen these three strains so far. Any other suggestions?

    1. White Widow
    2. Northern Lights
    3. Bubble Gum

I’ve grown before but like I said it’s been years and so much has changed. Any and all advice greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

  2. Yes, I would highly recommend you consider autos. Pefect for the multi strain grower. The tent runs 24/0 all the time. You plant a seed anytime you think you might want to harvest a plant in 110 days. Plants in tent are at all different stages of growth and multi strain. Plants can be individually raised or lowered to proper light height. 24/0 or 20/4 is a bitch for the elec, but the odd hour grower can enter anytime, and the new qb lights save on the elec.

  3. Autos are the future of home growing.
Eventually a significant fraction of all households will have an auto or two sitting around the house.

  4. If you go with led's you might consider Quantum Boards rather than Chinese blurples. If you use QB's you will need approximately 480 watts for your space. If you use Chinese blurples you will need approx. 700 actual watts. Beware of the claims of the Chinese blurples - what they call them and the equivalent claims mean nothing - figure the watts pulled from the wall. For example: most of the so-called 300w led's only pull around 130 actual watts. Expect to pay around $1 per watt for good lighting.

You can grow one plant or many plants in that space depending on how long you veg - it's your choice. Most growers who veg for 5-8 weeks do 4 plants. I like to figure approximately a 2x2 (4s/f) for one plant.

Can't help you with those Amazon kits.

Good luck and welcome back. :)

  5. that would do ok for your space

  6. Thank you everyone for the help. I’m definitely going to look into the autos. They weren’t around when I grew before.

I was digging threw my garage and I found my 400watt hps light I used to use. If I can keep temp down and ventilation working well I might use it instead of led. Any advantage to this?

I’m just not too sure of an hps in a grow tent. I’m pretty sure they are designed for led. So if I go hps then I’m more than likely looking at building a custom room. Decisions decisions

  7. There is no reason you can't use an HPS in a tent - it's done all the time.
If you use the HPS, you might consider a new bulb.

  8. hmmm, 400 hps will grow great pot, but nowdays most use the qb boards. The autos need no total darkness, so they don't even need a lightproof tent. The advantage to the hps is you already own it. You can build a tent around a 400 hid and many have done it. For comparison, 260 qb watts is about the same as 400 hps watts. Just for restarting info, not exact science.

  9. LOOOOVE THEM......that's all I grow
