I just found the full article for this oldie :yay:, and you will have to click the link to read this one. But yes, folks were getting high on cannabis tinctures way back in 1893. You'll need to hit arrow on the right to read the 2nd part of the article. Mr Scripture was using an alcohol tincture and then had a beer, so he may have been a wee bit "cross faded"!

  2. Looks like humans were a little more advanced than what scientists give them credit for.

  5. It was 130 years ago, hon! So it was only about 30 years after the Civil War started.

Here's another way to look at it, hon- I am 76 years old - old enough to be your grandma. My Grandfather was born in 1893, the same year that Mr. Scripture was getting high! Hope that helps!

And now I have to stop "playing" and get back to working on the List- new one is coming out end of this month and there is SO MUCH to do! So don't expect to seem me for a bit!

  11. @dobro49 The guy who turned me on to cannabis was an old beatnik. I went to (and observed people at) about a dozen "pot parties" at his place or after-hours at the Warlock shop, before I took my first puff.

@Duft Yes, they certainly were! In 800 BC the priests of the Old Testament were burning cannabis on their altars in a small enclosed room (aka "hot boxing").

Eighth century Jews burned cannabis as part of religious ceremony, researchers discover (news - 2020) Yahoo is part of the Yahoo family of brands

And about 100 years later, a good distance away in China-

  12. This is fascinating and it doesn't surprise me. People used to use cannabis before Christianity...the pagan religion has a lot of meditation and astral projection as part of it and cannabis and other intoxicants or hallucinagens helped with all of that. This is interesting though, the way that guy words it, talking about poison and stuff...and then he says that about the effect on the brain? Sounds about right! Cannabis always opens me up and helps me figure shit out. Provided I don't run away from insight and just want to get "high" and escape.

Anyway...lol @dobro49 for the reminder of 1993 lmao, it is interesting a hundred year span...I remember certain decades so well and wonder what it would be like 100 years prior. Like the 1920's!!! :D Very different time than now...

I just had a mental image of my grandparents smoking weed for the first time just to try it...and who knows if they might have liked it? LOL it makes me laugh bc my paternal grandfather was so conservative and religious and he instilled those values into his sons.(My dad and Uncle Jim grew up to say screw that though lol...my dad smoked weed in front of me as a child all the time, and Uncle Jim did too when we would visit! :D) but my Uncle Bob who had Multiple Sclerosis was offered medical marijuana. He turned it down. I think of these anti-pot people tho and picture them smoking weed and having a grand old time. Wouldn't that be amazing! Like Cheech and Chong's Up in Smoke.

Lol, just high morning ramblings but thanks for this, Granny. Look forward to seeing the new list!!!

  15. Not the 1870’s but weed had a major influence in blues and jazz music int he early 1900’s. It’s pretty cool how ‘substances’ influences music. Like acid in the 60s or coke in the 80’s
Now days it’s opioids that influences music

  17. Yup yup, you know me Sister T!!! :D I try to stay in a constant state of bliss and floatiness. There's a certain high that puts me right in a "hey no worries" place, so even if someone is being stupid or there's a long line, Idc, I just sit there floating. I go to my chiropractor and I'm so chill now, when I first started going, I would get so upset when I had to wait if they were backed up.
Not that I don't still get impatient at other times, but it's helped a lot.
I would love to live in 1893 and get high with a bunch of women...women had to be all pristine back then but I can see a bunch of them, corsets undone, just smoking J's and laughing hysterically at the state of the world. I wonder if they predicted what's going on now?
Lmao okay my high ass is signing off. G'night for now!!! :GettingStoned::apache:

  18. @HazelMoon How about 1887? "The Hashish Smokers" by Gaetano Previati

    upload_2023-8-24_13-30-20.png

I have a print of this on my wall. What gets me is that it could have just as easily been a bunch of hippie chicks from 1967! And I think it is time for a little hash!

  19. Awesomeness!!! I need some hash too. Weed is good rn though plentiful too! :D
Yeah I can see a bunch of suffragettes(sp) getting high and drawing on serious mental energy to put together the campaign for the vote! Sativa probably spurred them on that path. Lol!
I was born in 1967. 1987 was not my favorite year at all, but it was better than 2017 at least. I used to lament not being born in 1947 and being at that Woodstock.
I didn't bother with the 90's Woodstock though something told me no. I didn't hear much good about it sadly.
Anyway...yeah this would be a fun pose for an artist's model!!! :smoking-banana:
    Enjoy the hash. :)
