Get Money Out of Politics Petition

  1. Get Money Out

It's been a long time coming, but we have to get money out of politics to return the power back to the people.

  2. Wouldn't this give rich people an advantage?

  3. how would it?

  4. Why do you think that?

  5. All you do by prohibiting a non-violent exchange is make that exchange more expensive (see: drug prohibition).

  6. >_> so rich people support this because they will have to pay more money to buy people off?

just ban political donations over x$ , individuals only, public access

  7. Rich people can pay for TV ads and the costs of campaigning, not-so-rich people cannot. :confused_2:

This would be a more realistic goal.

  8. Prohibiting money from politics will only make it tougher for the little guy to have his voice heard. Rich people don't lose on this measure, because they already have bought off the politicians in question.

You give organized crime a monopoly on political donations by doing so, because money will find its way into politics regardless of any enacted prohibition. Alcohol was more readily available then ever under prohibition...

Remember, criminals are already breaking the law, so what do they care if they break one more?

You want a new community park in your district? You gotta go through this guy:

It amazes me that people can see the futility of prohibition as it pertains to drug use, but not prohibition as a concept in of itself.

    You cannot legislate morality.

  9. That's what the petition is all about.

"No non-citizen shall contribute money, directly or indirectly, to any candidate for Federal office. United States citizens shall be free to contribute no more than the equivalent of $100 to any federal candidate during any election cycle. Notwithstanding the limits construed to be part of the First Amendment, Congress shall have the power to limit, but not ban, independent political expenditures, so long as such limits are content and viewpoint neutral. Congress shall set forth a federal holiday for the purposes of voting for candidates for Federal office."

You guys didn't even open the link did you?[IMG]

  10. Sorry I didn't know there was a second draft further down the page that is the super cereal one...

"No person, corporation or business entity of any type, domestic or foreign, shall be allowed to contribute money, directly or indirectly, to any candidate for Federal office or to contribute money on behalf of or opposed to any type of campaign for Federal office. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, campaign contributions to candidates for Federal office shall not constitute speech of any kind as guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution or any amendment to the U. S. Constitution. Congress shall set forth a federal holiday for the purposes of voting for candidates for Federal office."

  11. Fine, fuck it, let's do nothing about all the rich people buying politicians.

  12. Decentralization.

No Federal Regulations, Subsidies, Tax Breaks, etc written for the lobbyist by the lobbyist.

Lets take a look at some industries with heavy government intervention versus those with next to none, and the affordability of goods and services in said industries.

    Heavy Intervention:
    Healthcare
    Higher Education
    Pharmaceutical
    Energy

    Next to None:

    Television
    Game consoles
    Cell phones
    Computers
    Stereos

Now you tell me, which of these categories of industries provides better products at cheaper prices over the course of time? :confused_2:

  13. Renewable energy like solar panels have gotten better and cheaper over the course of time.

14 Ways that Solar Power Costs will Decrease Sharply

"Solar power continues to grow by over 30 percent annually. Solar panels cost 100 times less than in the 1970s. Solar is clean, often generated at or near where electricity is needed, and not at the mercy of fluctuating coal or uranium prices."

  14. You mean like these guys?

Obama Team Backed $535 Million Solyndra Aid as Auditor Warned on Finances

Subsidies do accomplish one thing. Whichever industry they are placed in, there is inevitably more of said product.

You might be able to get a cheaper solar panel from Solyndra (before they file for Ch. 11), but the 535 million dollars invested into the company by our government could have been done a lot cheaper by private investors. Private investors would also have better sense then to put 500 plus million dollars into a company without looking into the health of the company, as they are risking their own money.

Remember, the government doesn't have to turn a profit, just raise taxes, borrow, and print more.

Government investment = Overpriced investment, shaky results.

  15. Let's just ban everything we don't like. We need more regulations! MOAR~

  16. I say we ban authoritarians.

  17. why do you think there are regulations brotha? special interests. Almost all bad things in this country can be traced to money in politics as it's cause.

I also advocate a salary for our reps of the average income of an american, to give them motivation to help the average american and stuff

  18. that's what I'm sayin! I was countering aaronman not your post

  19. Let's ban cars, pizza, mcdonalds, cigarettes, alcohol, bikes, skateboards, longboards, lawn mowers, guns, knifes, baseball bats, planes, jets, boats, buildings over 1 story tall, fireplaces, gasoline, aerosol cans, all metal, all toys smaller than a child's head, all food that can give you a illness or disease, lighters, matches, snowboards, skis, theme parks, freewill, individuality, and human thoughts and feelings. One more thing we should make a law requiring everyone to wear life vests, helmets, and uniforms than we'll truly be a safe nation of productive good obedient servants no wait citizens, sorry.
