Ok this is my first time growing, so I decided to start by using some descent bagseed that I had. I set three seeds in a weet paper towel and put it a rubbermaid container, with the lid cracked so alittle bit of air could get in. I did this on Monday morning it is now wednesday moring, and they all look the same exepct for one got darker in color and kind of sticky. The temp has been about the same at 78-80 degrees F. I got some more seeds but havent started them yet. so do you think I should wait longer or just get rid of them. Because i remember germinating the same bag seeds along time ago and they popped in a day or so. So what do you guys think I should do?????
seeds can take up to 10 days or more to germinate. in the conditions you described *good* seeds should crack and show their root in 4-5 days max in my opinion. i seldom wait longer, i just use the ones that open quick and chuck the others.
I never use the rubbermaid , i always use two Tea Saucers one upside down, then paper towels inside and the whole thing one top of a warm dvd player or something. I get nearly 100% with this.
I found if the plates are too cold this will slow the germination process, Try putting it on something warm like a cd player or computer or dvd player.. Mine are currently on a DIgital Set-Top Box and after 24hours i already have cracking.
I have them wraped in a blanket in my closet, do you think that will work, or should I just move them
THat should be nice and warm. But they will move along faster if they are being supplied a bit of heat, not just luke warm in a blanket.
yep that does work well. Another tip is: Make your favourite breakfast tea. Let the tea cool down and pop your seed in. Put the cup of cold tea in the fridge over night. * The antibodies in the tea help kill any bacteria that could prevent the seed from cracking Take the cup out the next morning and take the seed out and wash them off gently. *Removing the seeds from the cold tea, trick s the seed into thinking it's going from winter to spring and gets ready to crack. Then just use your normal germinating method.
Thats sounds pretty good, but I have heard alot about drowning a seed, and I would think if you just droped it in water that it would drown, or is their no such thing.
It's basicall y the same thing as dropping it in water, but the tea is more beneficial. The seed needs to be surrounded in water for a while for the seed to soften up and the growing to begin.
Ok it is now the fourth day and still no sign of them being any good expect that kinda one kinda like sheded its skin kind of. I put some more in a paper towel and then in a bowl with plastic wrap over it. and put both of them on my running DVD player.
ah just wait and see. if you get to 15 days and have nothing i'd pitch em out and try new seeds. just my opinion or you could start germinating new seeds in another bowl now and just use the fastest ones to sprout when you've seen them all
Ok well about 10 mins ago I grabed one of the seeds I started on monday morning, I just gave it alittle squeeze and it craked open on the bottom and this little white thing stated to poke out just alittle bit, maybe not even a centementer, but I decided to put it in the soil, I figured I would try. I also added another 5 seeds to start to day, so I have a total of 7 seeds, do you think it will grow, I didnt squeeze it that hard at all.
