Germination

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Noidea420, Oct 30, 2018.

  1. Hey guys, trying to germinate/get the seedlings going. Have paper towels them and now in soil waiting to sprout.
Question- I have 1 23W 6400K CFL giving it light. How far away should this be and a rough idea on timing? (Bag seed)

    Thanks in advance!

  2. @Noidea420
If they had tails showing in the paper towel they should clear the ground in a day or two. Direct seeds to ground can take 3 to 5 days to pop through.

CFL can be point blank as they won't burn unless the leaves actually touch the hot glass. Closer the better as CFL doesn't have much long distance effects.

  3. Thanks for the speedy reply, the perlite in the seedling tray looks to be browning. I have it roughly 4" away now.
So I can pretty much have it point blank even at seed/seedling and it's fine?
    Thanks again

  4. There's no need for light until the plants break ground. Good luck with your grow and welcome to GC. :)

  5. Okay, and how often would you water them in a solo cup? And do you do the extra 10-20% runoff while they're still seeds?

  6. You don't start watering until after they sprout - the medium just needs to be moist for seeds to sprout. I don't grow in soil so I can't help with your watering schedule or amounts.

  7. Thanks mate, will update in a day or two

  8. Fill a cup with your soil mix and let it dry out for a couple days. Lift the cup. That's what dry feels like. Wait untill your plants feel close to the dry cup. It doesn't take long to get a feel for when your plant needs more water. I do water and feed to runoff in soil. I check the pH of my runoff to watch for issues.

  9. Even at seedling, let the cup nearly dryout? Seed/seedling.

  10. That's for once the plant has sprouted. When you planted the seed, you should have pre-watered the soil. That should be plenty for the seed. If it takes more than a day or two to sprout, you can lightly mist the soil with a spray bottle. Just enough to keep it moist. You don't want the soil soaking wet.

  11. Thanks for the quick response and advice! These seeds are very old and unknown strain. Any idea where to buy good ones for Australia?
    Thanks

  12. Fuck the solo cup go a little bigger i do it works for me just a 1 gallon pot to start with that way roots get established a bit n the plant will be bigger before you have to transplant up.

  13. yea major issue i had when first starting 3 weeks ago was over watering. i started in 5 gals so of course when i see a big pot im tempted to water the whole thing and keep it constantly wet. that was one of my biggest mistakes. when i ended up letting it get dryer i actually saw it go from no progression for like a week into new growth.

i would water every 3 days soil would still be pretty moist ( not saying you should that is what i did and it wasn't a good idea ) water when you need to water. i pretty much check my soil daily since im trying to get used to how i think it should feel. growing outdoors now if it doesn't rain it takes about 3-4 days to dry out to the point i will need to water lightly.

other then that it's just trial and error. here is my plant yesterday https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachme...0/506879927241539584/JPEG_20181030_071911.jpg

it's smaller then i would like but hell i went through 3 other plants to get this far so im happy regardless. it's about to be 21 days old tomorrow.

  14. Yeah I think I was paranoid about it drying out and overwatered it. Still waiting for her to pop up but havnt watered for a day to see how it goes :)

  15. yea me too i don't really garden much besides easy vegetables but cannabis they can take some pretty good stuff.

like i dried mine out it started to grow after looking stunted for a week, just the past 3-5 days now it was raining and kept getting rained on it's still growing pretty good

  16. Really ? I usuall put light on em when i plant the germinated seed it helps the tap root come up quicker cause its reaching up towards the light right ? But for future refrence can i put germed seeds in soil in the dark woth no light till they pop. Thanks

  17. What's the point of light if the plant hasn't sprouted and the seed is underground?

  18. I dunno lol i just thought it helps it come up quicker lol maybe im just a burnout im gonna experment when my next batch is starting 3 under light 1 in dark n see what happens thankz
