hi, I have recently been trying to germinate my bagseeds for around 10 days and had no luck whatsoever! I have a small growspace 2x2x3ft high which is an enclosed airing cupboard with a door. In there I have a thermostat controlled propogator. I have bought some multipurpose compost and some peat moss pots. The temperature in there is around 80-90 farenheight. I soaked my seeds in lukewarm water(originally boiled in kettle) and added a rooting hormone gel and left overnight. In the morning the taproot is visible on some about 2mm long max. I pre-soaked the compost in the peat moss pots and then put in the propogator so I don't stun the seeds taproot. when the soil is at correct temp i put a 1/3 inch deep hole in the soil and emptied my seeds from the cup into a paper towel then used tweezers to put seeds in pots, taproot down. I then covered seed with soil from pot. I then covered the seeds with plastic sandwich bags(clear) and wrapped a rubber band around the bottom for a humidity dome. I then left the seeds on the heated propogator base (without the plastic lid on) in 100% darkness and checked daily for signs of dryness - still nothing! also, how often should I water the seeds? how often do they need airing from plastic bag dome? and have I missed out anything vital? Thanks, mallett
Try light! You shouldn't need to water them or give them anything until they have thier "real" leaves. I would let in freash air once a day. The biggest problem now is you might have killed off the start of the root tip. I'ld put them under natural ligt and if you don't see anything in a week I would say they are gone.
You don't need any light until they sprout. I'm 90% sure they don't need any rooting hormone either, Thats for clones. You germinate your seeds the way I do mine. Soak in water until tap root shows them plant tap root down into your growing medium and place in dark place til sprouted. I don't cover my seed trays with plastic either, that's for clones. My seeds usually sprout within a few days, but had a couple go almost two weeks. I'm hoping that rooting hormone did not fuck your seeds dude, but I don't now for sure. Don't give up good luck.
listen to this fella eh .... maybe youre trying to hard lol .... ... try not to water them ... if they do need watering put the water in the drip tray n let the soil soak it up rather than pouring it on top n letting it drain through ... keep using the bags as it will retain the moisture in the soil better... probably dodgy seeds but like people have said they can take up to 2 weeks to sprout .. but once you get that tap root showing you shouldnt have a problem... did you plant them the right way round ?? lol
thanks for the response so far. I soaked a new set of seeds last night and 6/10 showed its tap root. I then got some multipurpose compost and watered lightly. Then I planted the seeds taproot down(using tweezers!) I'll keep you informed mallett
i just wasted my timer to re-read the whole thing. And i still stand by what i said. If the plants have no light to reach out of the soil to, then its just going to get longer root tips, instead of actually growing. Everytime i have grown, which is a good ammount of times, i germinate till root shows, then put it root down in soil, and turn lights on 24/7 for a week, then i go into 18/6. this has never failed me please, dont act like i dont know what im saying. Just try putting a light over them, if it doesnt work then you will still be in the same situation, but i doubt it goodluck
ok so instead of the ..... i should have used a , either way you cant quote half a sentance n pull me up about it when the second half of the sentance is the punch line so to speak ... also are you saying light penetrates the soil to the seed ???
The punch line? Your "punch line" doesnt mean shit Mallet has already told us he planted it taproot down.( which is the right way 'round').. I stick to my original advice, maybe you should re-read the thread before attempting to bash me. And since you only planted it a mere 1/3 deep, the isnt a lot of soil to penetrate. the leaves stretch to the light, the roots stretch to the water. *and please, next time you try to be an asshole, as LEAST read the thread first, that way you dont look so stupid*
hahaha behave ... i was joking about planting it the wrong way round .. i thought the lol part kinda pointed that out ... and so yeah if it was a joke then you get a punch line ... correct??? i wasnt trying to "bash" you at all, i honestly thought you had miss read it ... as far as i know you dont need any light untill they sprout .. but hey each to there own .. with all this in mind it would appear you are the one that tried to be an asshole trying to be funny and prove me wrong anyway mallet up to you what you try lol .. hope you get better results whatever advice you choose to take lol
No sir, see, YOU tried to tell me that I need to re-read the thread, therefore insinuating that i posted without knowledge on the subject, but really, it was YOU who had no clue what you were talking about. so now your bringing shit out talking about jokes, trying to make yourself look not as shabby. I don't intend to get into internet confrontations with anybody here, but you were calling me wrong, when really its the other way around. and sometimes, i can be a smart ass so im not trying to be a dick
oh dear ... get over your self .. taken from the grow guide in sids sig ..... http://www.geocities.com/quickgrowguide/ taken from vokals grow guide ... http://forum.grasscity.com/showthread.php?p=613384#post613384 taken from over grow... http://www.overgrow.com/growfaq/721 i guess i dont look so stupid now then huh????
LOL... I gave my method and my opinion. I didnt say one was better then the other, i just said try it before u bash it and its funny how you try to take the attention off of your stupid mistake and bring up this method thing again in attemps to look like less of an ass we were talking about how you were telling me, how i should re-read the thread. how bout you just squash this before it escalates.
THC 101 i would chill if i was you....ive been looking at your replies on some of the threads and i aint to impressed dude....i think you need have a little chat to your self(i bet you dont care what i think though)....go through some more grow guides and think about it a bit more.... your making an ass of your self..
telling me that I should re-read the thread, when in fact it was you who needed to. It's germination folks, not rocket science. And never has my method failed me. Tetra, I guess I should chill out. I know it's not an excuse but it's been a bad week.
