Hi guys, I'm totally new to growing my own stash, but it's not been going well for me so far. I've got a 40x40x140 cm tent along with a Mars hydro II 400w led grow light, 4" carbon filter extraction kit, 10l smart pots, canna coco a + b nutrients and ph adjustment bottles. It all started about a month ago when I tried popping my Dinafem Fruit Auto, a freebie seed I got from a head shop about 2 years ago. I soaked it in water until it sank then put it in a sealed container in a wet paper towel but unfortunately nothing every happened so I just put it down to a bad seed or because I had stored it for so long. I then ordered another auto seed, a heavyweight seeds 2fast 2vast, I germinated this one the same way and then planted it into coco after I saw the tap root was about 2mm long. After a week nothing had happened so I ended up digging it up because I'm so impatient to see what was happening. I saw the tap root was now about 1cm but growing upwards so I tried carefully repositioning it in the medium and the tap root broke clean off! Decided to leave it in there just in case something grew anyway but nothing did. I then in the meantime ordered some seeds from RQS, I got their auto starter pack that comes with 3 white widow autos and a mini propagator and I also ordered a northern light auto seed. I planted the 2 seeds (1 of each) straight into their easy grow propagator and waited. After 3 days I saw a little white dot (root) near the surface of one of the plugs so all was looking well. It's now been a whole 8 days since planting and nothing happened still. 2 days ago I decided to plant the plugs into the coco in the hope that something would grow and I saw the tip of a root coming out of the side of the NL autos plug. Today as nothing had happened still I started investigating. I VERY CAREFULLY broke open both plugs and there is a white tap root of about 1cm on each but they both look pretty anemic and half dead to he honest. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I've only got two auto seeds left now and they are both the same strain, white widow, so a bit of a shame as wanted 2 different flavours on the go. I have a few fem photo seeds too but wanted to do an auto grow for my first grow so I don't have to mess around with flipping the light cycle. Sorry for such a huge post hopefully someone can give me some tips? My guess is they were over watered or something but now that's 4 seeds I've ruined!
Get yourself some vegetable seeds and practice. When you get to the point where 90% of your vegetables come up then you can plant some expensive cannabis seeds.
Thanks for the reply, I did actually start growing some other things about 3 months ago which inspired me to get my own grow tent setup. I've got a few hot chilli pepper plants growing and probably got around 70% germination on those seeds. A lot of trial and error at this point. Do you think it's worth me popping some new seeds then? Guessing theres no hope for my seeds after 8 days.
Rapid Rooters. Soak in purified water. Squeeze out excess. Put seed approx. 3/8" deep in hole. Cover hole with a small piece of rooter. Stick in drawer. Keep rooter moist with eye dropper. 3-4 days they will sprout.
That's actually very similar to the propagator kit I used on my seeds from rotal queen seeds. I think I may have just put too much water in the bottom of the tray the plugs were sat in, maybe they drowned! I will retry another seed with your method. Thanks!
It's doubtful your seeds will come up at this point. I still think you should practice before using your expensive seeds but I see you have your mind made up so maybe this time it'll work. I don't think you should be growing autos to avoid changing the light cycle. IMO regular photo plants are more forgiving than autos.
Ahh interesting, these are the seeds I have left from RQS, I might try the northern light fem as I got that 5 pack as a freebie and it is one of my favourite strains. I also have a lot of bag seeds but probably not worth using those.
My Spidey-Sense thinks the seeds are drowning. This is just not that hard. I used the paper towel, baggie, closet, 3 day method... always worked! (The paper towel was damp)
I just popped a couple of Royal Queen seeds I got more than 5 years ago, they came in the same packaging as shown but the printing was different, I don't think mine said USA Premium. They both came up just this morning.
Ooh right nice, which germination method did you use and which strain out of interest? Are you doing a grow diary for it?
I've grown my own since the late '60s and no longer get really excited about it. IMO grow journals are pretty boring, like watching grass grow so to speak. I do enjoy seeing pics of completed grows and beautiful ripe colas. What I just started was a couple of freebies so there was two strains and TBH I just don't remember what names they were given but they were both some kind of skunky kush.

Just started it pal, finally got some real progress with the purple queen, I have a northern lights fem too but is not doing as well as this strain.
