Hey, I was germinating some seeds and about 7 of them have grown the tail quite long but the seed it still on. Should I plant it with the seed or wait? I don't want to let the tails get any longer.
You should plant it asap, before it comes out of the seed. Make sure the seed is just below the top soil and keep the soil moist.
your in trouble mate. thats the taproot which should have been planted in soil by now, so if not done so? do it now!... leave the seed pod on as will pop off itself, and plant seeds in a light mix soil asap, gently put taproot into small hole you make with anything the width of the seed & poke hole into soil around length of taproots, then gently put into soil, you'll be leaving the head of the seed out(dont worry about seeds popping out, aint happening with they roots), then get cfls over them asap, gently water ,once only & hope they survive. the taproots hate light and air so notice the colour they should be white but must be getting looked at too & getting too much air, next time plant seeds when root is as long as seed, they ones are dying bud, hope im wrong all the best
^ he is right, you need to put them in soil immediately, the only thing i can add is that the soil should be moistened and you can put some saran wrap loosely (just so some air can exchange) over the top of the pot just to keep the humidity up in the pot for the first 1 or 2 weeks. this is an old trick that my grandfather uses on his land to get his veggies started, and I find it works for me too. good luck
