Germinating techniques

  1. I'm planning on germinating my Bubblegum Kush tonight. Someone said I should just drop the seeds in a cup of pH balanced water, but I think the technique where you layer it with wet paper towels seems more practical. Which one should I do? Also, once the seed casing cracks and the root pops out, I should plant them 1/4 inch in the soil, right?

  2. i normally germinate using the wet paper towel technique. layer it, make it damp and put your seeds inside. i normally use a 1/4 weed bag and seal the towel inside and leave it somewhere dark and pref warm. i always get great outcome and full germinated seeds. and you can plant them 1/4 in the soil but make sure the sprout is inserted first

Oh, I don't have any of those.

  6. you can always put it on a plate and leave it in a cupboard.

when i first started germinating, the first mistake i made was leaving the wet towel with the seeds in inside a cupboard without a plate or anything, my towel started drying out and my seeds did not germinate after a whole week.

give your seeds time to germinate, atleast a week, anything more then that might mean you got some bad seeds

  8. What works best for me is the napkin method. Soak the napkin and squeeze the majority of water out, leaving the napkin moderately damp. Place it inside a ziploc (sandwich size with zip top works best). Vacuum seal it and leave it in a dark, COOL place. They sprout relatively quicker I've noticed, usually within 4-5 days.

  9. You got everything right except you want it in a dark and warm place, seeds favor high humidity and heat(not too much obviously).

    :)

  10. I just germd my fist seeds(3) and i use paper towel method but i put it in a small tuppaware with lid the put it ontop of my cable box. Today is the fourth say and all three are out of soil growing now.

Yeah, but can't the roots rot if it gets too hot?

  12. Well I don't think you live in a hot ass house lol just put it in a dark room. Let the seed do it's thing.

  13. Yes you can kill the seed if you heat it too much, so if you add any heat it should be "gentle", something to bump a few degrees above room temp.

These germination methods are all fine variations on the same theme -- keep the seed moist but not soggy, enclose it to keep it dark and to keep humidity in, maybe a touch of warmth to coax things along, and let mother nature do her thing. Ziploc, tupperware, stoneware/ceramic plate all work (if you use a plate then also use a bowl inverted over top of the paper towels to keep things moist and dark).

I do think that soaking them in a glass of water for 24 hours before the paper towels will get them to pop a day or two sooner -- after a 24 hour soak, my seeds usually pop after only 24 more hours in the paper towels.

  14. you can also plant them directly in the medium has about a 90 percent germ rate jiffy por rockwool works best keep light on them and water moist not soaking

  15. I just use the moist paper towel in a baggie method. I put the bag in an opaque container, then put that behind my LCD tv. It keeps it fairly warm. In the grow Im doing now, 3 out of 3 seeds sprouted. Just don't pack the soil on top of it too much, the seed & taproot need some wiggle room lol

  16. My germinating technique :
    1. Take 1L tap water in a bowl and leave it 24H to disperse chloride and other chem.
    2. Take seeds and soak into the NO. 1 water for abt 4H.
    3. Take paper towel and moist it with the NO. 1 water using a sprayer.
    4. Put seeds in paper towel and warp it.
    5. Put the paper towel in a zip-lock plastic bag.
    6. Put plastic bag in a dark warm place for abt 24-36H.

Using this method i get about 100% germ rate if using bagseeds.

Out of 30 bagseeds i have germ this year all have sprouted healthy.

My 7 seeds germinated Sunday anyway. (4 bubble gum, 3 pineapple)

  18. Awesome! I got a couple germinating right now.

  19. I have a sandpaper box (matches with paper on inside) which I shake the seeds in to scuff them.. then I soak overnight in water until the sink (just like making sprouts)

Then I plant them about 2cm under coco coir in a seeding tray... 100% success with this so far and there is no risk of taking a germinated seed and moving it as you can potentially break the tap root when removing it from the paper towel.

I actually do the sprouting in my grow room which is the most inefficient use of MH ever but next time will sprout under some CFL;s

  20. all you need to do, seed > damp towel > close the towel together with the seeds in > place it inside a sealed bag or something > put it somewhere dark > 1-3 days later you will get white sprout coming out!

always works ! if it dont just give it time!
