I put two of my favourite seeds in a glass of water for 24hrs and a bit. My favourite seed strain started rooting but the other one didn't, I then moved the seeds into a 4 layer thick dampened paper towel covered by another 4 layer thick dampened paper towel. I then lightly pressed down on the paper towel so it could touch the seeds. I cover it with a plate and put it near my computer so it's nice and warm. Then to my horror this morning my favourite seed strains root is not there any more? It like went back in or something!? Why would it do that and will it come back out? The other seed which I promised to give to my friend is now rooting Why has the other one decided to go back in!!!
Probably the tap root was damaged when you moved it from the glass to the p. towel. The best way to germinate is directly in the soil. That way you don't risk damaging the taproot. Next time, if you must start out in a glass of water, move directly into soil once the seed cracks and you see the taproot. When you germinate, microscopic root hairs start working their way into the soil (or into the paper towel). When you pull the seed off the paper towel, you are actually ripping out those tiny root hairs that you can't see . I would go ahead and pot up both seeds and see if the damaged one does anything, but unfortunately it's probably a goner. Hey, at least you've got one seed. You can always give your friend a clone in a month or so. HTH
Agree with the above. Seeds in that stage are exceptionally fragile. Pressing down probably broke it. If thats the case most likely will not survive. How it goes man. Tap root doesnt go back in like a turtle. It grows and grows. I use the shot glass method for 24 hours then pour the contents on a already damp nakin then fold over and put in a sealable plastic container. Sometimes put it in a warm place sometimes not seems to germinate the same rate. Then I lightly use tweezers tap root down and drop in the hole. Lightly cover the hole with soil and usually works.
Let nature do its thing man. I pop seeds by putting them in soil in a small pot and water it gently. I rarely have a problem with a seed germinating. 8/8 this go around.
OK, the other one has grown it's tap root even more now, but the other seed still hasn't got its taproot! The seed that isn't sprouting, I opened up its case because the seed is cracked open. I could see a curled up taproot inside like it's hiding like a turtle! So I then plopped it into some organic soil with perlite and vermiculite in a small cup, watered it, put a small glass over the cup to create a greenhouse affect and now just waiting! Do you think there is a chance the root will come back out?! Thanks everyone!
Or just buy some seeded weed like my buddy did! Smoking and finding seeds of the strain you are smoking is always a fine activity!
Yeha as soon as u see the root plant it! Its called damphaning off and its a commob occourence when it comes to seeds, then i would of continued with the other seeds in paper towels
