Gaining weight

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by Braddock, May 9, 2011.

  1. I've started smoking recently and I've noticed myself gaining a little weight

What are some tips, from you experienced tokers? I work out regularly and shit

Its just that when I have the munchies, I eat and eat and eat and there is no end.

  2. Don't eat and eat and eat...Pretty self-explanatory.

Eat before you toke or learn some self control lol

  4. self control

  5. Yeah it just requires self control. Don't keep snack food around where you'll be tempted to eat it. Out of sight out of mind does work to some extent. I don't have much snack food in my house ever so it's not that big a problem for me. Last night however I ate two massive ass chocolate bars, but tonight I have no more massive ass chocolate bars to eat so I won't be having any problems.

You could also try to pick better foods for your munchies. Gum is a good choice because it doesn't really have any calories but you get delicious flavor for a good bit of time. Hard candies like Werther's caramels are also good because they last a long time so you consume fewer calories. I eat a lot of those and these hard ginger candies they sell at this Asian market in my town.

I'll just throw this out there that I have a friend who's a health nut and will literally just eat lettuce for his munchies. I've seen him sit down after smoking with a whole head of lettuce and eat the entire thing straight. Whatever floats your boat. I will say that baby carrots are delicious high.

  6. It's all about self control. Try eating before you smoke, or prepare a healthy snack before you smoke and eat ONLY that healthy snack afterwards

    Drinking water helps too.

  7. if you work out regularly and shit then aim your training towards maintaining yourself if thats what you do. If your over your maintenance calories just run them off.

When i was bulking it was great
    wake up
    smoke
    eat
    school
    eat
    smoke
    eat
    workout
    smoke
    eat
gained like 20lbs and made amazing strength gains.

  8. Once you build a tolerance you won't need to worry as much about the munchies...
Try to eat healthier food until then... Just hide away your junk food

  9. fruit, juice, low-fat snack foods.. there are plenty of healthy eating options dude.

have you ever had watermelon while blazed? SO CASH.

  10. Same but I only smoke at night.

But yea don't go over your maintenence calorie level unless you're bulking (and make sure its good food not bullshit). To find your maintenence calorie level just google "calorie calculator" or some shit like that and one will come up to determine your maintenence. Keep your cals lower than maintenence if you're looking to cut.

Imo weed is great for bulking if you're eating the right shit (lots of protein and good carbs). Just eat well and quit buying generic crap brands from wal-mart.

  11. If you eat some fruit before you smoke, like 10-15 minutes beforehand, you won't have cravings that bad when you're high.

  12. run some more fatboy

  13. Eat once a day. Walk a lot. And only consume water/tea/coffee(black). I lost 15 pounds in less than two weeks doing this unintentionally.

  14. This is a pretty bad idea, honestly. Only eating once a day is starving your body of it's needed nutrients. The reason people not eating a good enough amount of food is because your body eats the muscle before the fat so you lose muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat, so you lose a bit of muscle and it's like losing a good amount of fat. I'm rambling because I'm a tad bit roasted.

  15. Keep a wide variety of fruit around. It helped me a lot, I actually lost more weight then intended. It's better to pig out on fruit then junk food.

  16. Salad is a stoner's munchie dream. (or mine at least)

In a big bowl (not a plate, I hate eating salads out of plates for some reason), lettuce, chopped carrots, cheese, Italian dressing. If you're feeling elaborate, crutons (sp). It isn't a very good salad to some people, but thats the way I love it and for this thread's sake, its very healthy aside from the dressing, just don't overload it. Switch the lettuce and Italian dressing for spinach and ranch occasionally for a smoother munch.

  17. All I do is eat, eat, eat.. Fast metabolism ftw.

  18. Well here's a bit of science to save your ass. Compounds in MJ cause the bodies metabolism to speed up, but it also makes it harder for your body to gain muscles. So really it's more dependent on your bodies original metabolism and how much food and what type of food you take in. So pretty much, get stoned, ride a bike for an hour, drink lemonade or gatorade instead of soda, eat some salad with chicken and whatever else you want, or anything not fast food. To compensate for munchies and extra "nutrition" calories, ect, you need to exercise more to compensate. Think of it as the reverse of normal exercise. In that if you exercise your body slowly needs more and your metabolism speeds up to compensate, but with MJ your metabollism goes up without exercise, so you need to exercise to compensate. Use your head.

  19. It's not that you are eating so much, it's more WHAT you are eating.

My field of employment is in education. I made this up to show the kids, in understandable terms, why junk food makes you fat. I won't make you paste little red apples to show that you can count that many! lol (This doesn't come out as neatly on GC, as when I print it up at home- sorry! )

    Apple Caloric Equivalency Chart
    (1 apple = 80 calories)
    1 2.75 ounce bag of Potato chips.................................5 1/2 apples

    1 2 ounce (tiny) Snickers Candy bar...........................3 1/2 apples

    1 2.5 ounce bag of Oreos bite-sized cookies...............2 apples

    1 Twinkie..........................................................about 2 apples

    1 Apple Fritter.............................................................3 3/4 apples

    1 Pudding cup...............................................................2 apples

2 cups Pop Secret Popcorn............................................1 apple

8 ounces (1 cup) Jello with sugar..................................2 apples

    40 ounces (5 cups) of Sugar-free Jello..........................1 apple

    8 ounces (1 cup) Fruit Yogurt.............................about 3 apples

    10 Wheat Thin Crackers.................................................1 apple

I ask the kids which they think will keep them full longer- one cup of fruit yogurt, or 3 apples? Usually, for about 2 weeks after my little demo, there is an upswing in healthy snacks. Then they go back to the junk.

Some advice- Make a shopping list and stick to it. Avoid anything that has high fructose corn syrup in it. (Lab rats used to be given a diet high in HFCS to give them diabetes for experiments.) Learn what those chemicals in your food are- some of them are not very food-like! Just run a search of the chemicals like BHA or BHT or benzoate of soda! Learn to cook from scratch! :D

Much of our eating is "mindless". Food goes in our mouths and we don't even really taste it. You grab a bag of chips, gobble them, then rinse them down with a soda with 40 grams of sugar (that's over 1 1/2 ounces)... and you are hungry again in half an hour.

Pay attention to what you are eating- and take the time to enjoy it!
