Welcome to my grow and chat thread, this is in no shape or form a journal but more a place where I will share my growing techniques and experiences. This is also a place where everyone can chat freely and ask questions, I’ve been growing for many moons over many years and do hold some knowledge about the plant we all love and how to grow it. Let’s start by showing some nice shots of my latest endeavour, harvested about 8 weeks ago.. Strain: Royal Queen Seeds - Honey Cream fast; 56day flower. Harvested at day 57 with a good 20% of amber trichomes. Grown under 810 true watts of QB’s with a mix of 6500k & 3000k lm301b diodes. Bio bizz soil and bio bizz nutes, finished with New Millenium - Winter Frost. Lovely shot of some cola’s Solid frost output Leaf to calyx ratio sucked on this one Close shave Rock solid nugs Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Here’s a picture of the root game on one of my white fire og girls, this is at 12days from pop! 1ltr pot filled. Strong roots, strong fruits these babies have now packed out their 5ltr pots and will hit their final home of 20ltr pots on Monday! Mainlined for 8 mains, I’ll will allow 6 laterals per main and 6 auxiliary shoots per lateral, everything else will be lollipopped. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Let’s talk lights... this is one of my hot topics at the moment! Over the years I have grown under quite a few different lighting options gathering information on each fixture and fitting. I began vegging with t5 fixtures and flowering under HPS; I stuck with HPS as my flowering choice for a long time and still now have a deep love for that option. I ditched the t5 veg setup and replaced it with a Metal Halide set-up and found those to be a much better option than the t5 for me. More recently I have turned my head to a much more modest veg set-up, well when I say veg it’s more seedling into early veg and up until about the 6th node. That set-up is blue CFL. The little girls absolutely adore the spectrum and environment conditions those bulbs provide. I’ve also flowered under some of the earlier versions of cob lighting which I didn’t really rate and switched back to HPS. Now I’m running under QB’s for flowering and I’ve had some amazing results with less power consumption, more controllable heat and a wider range of light spectrum. My current fixture is a mix of 6500k & 3000k LM301B diodes, the 6500k really helps during stretch and gives me full control over internode spacing. I have also began to wonder if the added blue is a contributing factor to resin production but I need to run some tests to get a definitive answer. Here’s some of the boards: I also have (5) strip lights covering a wider spectrum with added 660nm and 730nm but I’m yet to hang these: I also have (3) QB 18’s for initiation and EOD which I will place & hang in the new year but will not use them until the next run. Finally I have Acadia 6% uvb bulbs for extra resin production, I will do full reports on the effects of using uvb at some point with my own findings. The Honey Cream plants I posted above spent most of their flowering life under 1150ppfd with the lights sat at 18inches above canopy without co2. When I pushed for 1250ppfd there was some bleaching appearing on the top leaves so I backed the lights down to 1150ppfd again. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
I do, thanks for asking! It’s my first, got off to a rocky start but have made it to day 13 of flower: My progress...
Hey GrowerAnonymous! Nice lookin colas you got there! Im a first time grower using 2 Spider Farmer SF-4000's QB's in a 4x8 space with 5 plants. They just started on week 6 of veg today! What was your light height around this time of veg. with high output QB's? Thanks man! Sent from my SM-G965U using Grasscity Forum mobile app
Just generally good watering practices making the roots search for water, the only additive used at this stage is bio-bizz root juice. I will water towards pot edges and not by the stem so that the roots have to grow and search for water, ohh and when they need watering.. leave it another day Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
My light height always sits around 18inches after the seedling stage but I dim the drivers. At week six of veg I lay up at around 550/600 ppfd. If you use a lux meter then I’d say 40/45k lux is about nice at this stage. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
Hmmm, I have the exact figures written in my diary - I’ll dig them out a little later today. Off the top of my head I’m around 1.4-1.7gpw. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
They have a lot of ‘major’ plus points - Do they absolutely shame HPS? No. I’m about to run a 270w QB vs 400watt hps comparison, it will be documented here so that’s one to watch out for. Sent from my iPhone using Grasscity Forum
