Fungus in the Forest.

Discussion in 'Science and Nature' started by TheGreen13, Aug 24, 2018.

  1. Theres something about mushrooms and all kinds of Fungus that fascinates me. I love seeing them in the forest. All the different shapes sizes and colors. I figured I'd start a thread for the like minded as a cool conversation piece, and collection of cool pictures.

So hopefully a lot of you will join and share pictures of mushrooms and any other types of fungus you may stumble upon on your forest adventures.

Here are some pictures I took just to get it started. Most where from today just walking into the woods behind my house for 10 min. And I didnt even go far. 20180824_163018.jpg 20180824_162908.jpg 20180824_162957.jpg 20180824_162802.jpg 20180824_162734.jpg 20180824_162715.jpg 20180824_162540.jpg 20180824_162341.jpg 20180824_162259.jpg 20180824_162228.jpg 20180824_162213.jpg 20180824_162138.jpg 20180824_162104.jpg 20180824_161810.jpg 20180824_161806.jpg

  5. Awsome. Usually after it rains more pop up as well. It's a good time to go looking the next day or a couple of days later.

  6. I don't know if anyone watches Joe Rogans pod casts? One episode he has Paul Stamets on. And they discussed Fungus Intelligence. It's pretty interesting. In one part Paul tells Joe about how the Japanese used a specific kind of Fungus to help them redesign the Subway System. It's pretty crazy.

I actually took a picture right outside my house that actually proves this. One of my kids threw a brown towel out side the screen door behind the house. One day I was sitting in the kitchen and looked outside and saw the brown towel on the ground. I was like who the heck threw a towel out there. But when I looked closer it wasn't just a towel. Some type of Fungus grew around the towel and made itself look exactly like the towel. It grew with the same color and with ripples and wrinkles just like the towel. It blew my mind. I took a picture and I still have it in my phone. I actually forgot about it.

So here it is. Enjoy. Fungi Intelligence!! 20180520_133332.jpg 20180510_154959.jpg

  7. Also if you look close enough you'll see the two little birds that were matting and flew into the glass door and both died at the exact same time. As I was looking at the picture I just remembered that what made me look. I was sitting there and then BANG right against the glass. I looked and they were both twitching on the ground and then died within seconds. At least they died in love and when they were having sex. Crazy. And that's when I noticed the fungus and towel as well. I saw two intriguing things at once.

  10. Went for a walk today in the woods. I found some puffballs coming up but they were so small. I came across some other random mushrooms as well. But what caught my eye was these orange mushrooms i seen while leaving. I thought I scored some chanterelles but it turns out theyre jack o lantern mushrooms and they are poisonous. 20180825_183504.jpg 20180825_183751.jpg 20180825_184619.jpg 20180825_191504.jpg 20180825_191507.jpg 20180825_191516.jpg

  11. Nice! I've heard of those Jackolantern mushrooms. Pretty cool. Awsome pictures. I love the colorful ones. Some them look like there from some kind of fantasy land.

  17. Those big puff ball mushrooms must be from the Midwest?? I've never run into them here in the Northeast.
