Fungus gnats

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by df47, Jun 7, 2019.

  1. Does anyone know if fungus gnats can cause dry and curled leaves?
I’ve noticed a few in my tent a few weeks back and now all my bottom leaves are yellow, curling or cracked and from what I’ve read it’s usually nitrogen deficiency but I also saw something earlier about gnats doing this to plants also?
I have sticky straps set up through my tent which has caught a whole lot of them and I also have moisture absorbers and a fan blowing directly towards the plants, I’m not sure what else I can do to get rid of them?

  2. Have also added more perlite to the top

  4. You’ve got some purple stems too. How bad is you gnat infestation can you see larvae in your top soil like tiny grains of sand moving around?

  5. image.jpg They are pretty bad, there’s a fair few caught on the sticky bug strip alresdy
Can’t see any larvae can only see the actual bugs
Would this stuff here be worth spraying on the soil?

  6. Fungus gnats are often a sign of overwatering and the best way to get rid of them is to let your soil get very dry before watering again then don’t water to excess because your soil probably isn’t draining well enough what’s your perlite ratio? How often are you watering? If you’re not waiting for your soil to almost completely dry between watering your watering to often which could be drowning your plant causing your decay. Don’t worry about spraying anything just let that soil dry and the gnats will leave when they don’t have wet topsoil to nest in. The gnats won’t harm your plants the larvae eating your roots will so if you don’t have a bunch of larvae you’re probably still ok.

  7. Also are you checking your ph?

  8. Go ahead and treat with the neem oil in case there is any larvae activity but keep it light remember you want to dry that top soil. A light layer of garden sand will also help to discourage the activity while you wait for thing to dry. I don’t think the gnats are causing that however. But still want to get rid of them.
